Tbh gaming is still stupid strong, I think the PS4 is getting within sniffing distance of the PS2 install base last time I checked.

Granted, I’m sure a lot of that is people using them as streaming devices but still.

The console platforms have a combined user base of well over 100 million and PC has 90 million active users on Steam alone. MS has been very vocal about consumer choice in regards to how people buy and play games, Sony have stated multiple times that the traditional PlayStation model is here to stay, Nintendo is gonna Nintendo no matter what everybody else does and the core PC user base is by far the most militant of all platforms when it comes to rejecting things they don't want.

As with almost all major doom mongering about the industry, it's massively overblown by people that either aren't actually paying attention or are doing it deliberately for attention and money.

Raising hand,........YEP I'm still a console gamer (PS4 PRO,PS4,PS3,PS2,PS1) and won't stop either. Granted,.... PC games are great for other folks but me forget it. I'm not a PC gamer and really don't want to go down that rabbit hole to find out more.

I don’t see Google’s service being all that successful. I’m sticking with console and PC

I still have an original NES, a Game Boy Colour and a Gamecube, I'm not getting rid of my consoles just because digital games exist. Sometimes you want to play the original systems. Streams aren't all they're cracked up to be.

I'm one of those that avoid PC gaming as long as possible. You want to know what my last PC game was? X-wing: Rogue Squadron. I was raise a console boy, and I'll die a console boy.

I have every console released from Nintendo, Sega, Sony, Microsoft and the TurboGrafX-16

I believe consoles will still be around for many years. I'm not really much of a PC gamer.

I hate playing with a mouse and keyboard. It just doesn’t compute for me. I’m roughly the same age as the PlayStation console, so I always paraphrase Mark Twain to my friends by saying “I came into this world with PlayStation, and I’ll leave this world with PlayStation.”

Sorry folks but i've got to laugh at the irony of being against the consumer and performance implications of streaming services, yet declaring undying loyalty to console platforms that you have no real control over already and have long term performance compromises from the day they are launched.

I'm not shitting on anyone for preferring the convenience and lower price of entry of consoles, but that's the mentality that allows platform holders to do whatever the fuck they want as long as they do it slowly and inconspicuously enough for most people not to notice or care. If your actually serious about staying in gaming forever and you think that there's a serious risk of streaming services eventually wiping out local hardware, your not going to win that fight or find somewhere else to play by refusing to use anything that isn't a walled garden controlled by a single company.

So, are you implying that gamers aren't True Gamers if they don't use PC and hack or mod stuff? Because that strikes me as a tad elitist in definition. Video Games are there to be enjoyed and if you have a physical console with physical games, unless they feature some kind of server out of your control you can play the game of your choice indefinitely.

If that wasn't what you were getting at I'm just wondering what your end goal was then because honestly I've read the post a few times over and it just does not compute entirely.

No, i'm saying your already trapped in an anti-consumer position with consoles because they are a closed system where the platform holder controls everything and that's more the case now then ever with the nature of modern systems.

You say you can play a physical game forever, but Sony or MS could quite easily take a game out of circulation almost entirely if they patched the OS not play it and made that revision necessary for connecting to online services and running future titles. Considering they have systems in place to detect when systems have been tampered with, it wouldn't even be advisable to use any cracks or workarounds the internet would find for such a thing until after that console isn't supported anymore and/or your not worried about it getting banned. Then you've got the fact that many games don't even ship finished on disc now and require day one patches because of the lead times for physical releases and the business necessity of working on a game all the way up to the release date.

So yeah streaming may be worse, but folks shoulden't be chaining themselves forever to platforms that aren't really that much better out of misplaced brand loyalty.

Yeah, gotta be careful with this argument guys. I don't think we should wade into that territory and have this thread go "downhill" imo.

Consoles aren't a dying breed. Handhelds are doing well. PC Gaming is doing well. Even arcade machines are making a comeback. That's the beauty of gaming, there is something for everyone and the different systems co-exist nicely and always have.

Sony and Microsoft has dongles for PC that add controller support. I play most of my PC games with those.
