This is for archiving purposes, I assume? Sounds like a good thing in my opinion.

 

Aye, I felt that with websites from the 2000's shutting down, DVDs rolling out of print and those that get replacements often having none of the extras.. A lot of these digital files are as much at risk of being lost as the original paper.

Also helps to get some insight into the animation production process from back then, as it is an important stepping stone to how animation is produced now. For instance, both the two Joe scripts and the TF season 1 scripts mark the transition in script-writing that happened in mid-1984: From a 20-25 seconds per page standard (around 60 pages) to a 30 seconds per page standard. Cutting down on a lot of the "directing-on-paper" from the previous era.

 

Took a chance and came up with two more TF scripts: The actual script scan versions of 30 Seconds Over Megatron (Starscream's Brigade) and Revenge of Bruticus. As opposed to the Word file transcripts that have been around forever.

One thing about Revenge that is glaring on the scan version that we couldn't pick up on the Word version: On page 42, the whole bit about Bruticus' fail-safe mechanism was a story editor insert. As Larry Strauss has written it Prime sneaks up on his opponent, shoots him in the spine and paralyses him. Then points a gun at his head and says "Temporary paraylsis. Sing the password or I'll make it permanent!".

Between this and what we've told about War Dawn. I think the office was starting to regret telling the writers to up the violence level ahead of the movie.

 

Got the last major pieces for the time being unless there is a contribution from somewhere. Added the following

• Scripts and storyboards from the old BCI Eclipse box set of D&D, covering 19 episodes in total.
• Bought the scan version of the TFTM draft from Script City that has been floating around in transcript form for ages.
• Put up the penultimate draft of GI Joe The Movie from the Shout Factory DVD. Yes, Duke is dead in this, and suprisingly so is Serpentor by the end.
• Finally, for Defenders Of The Earth, the show bible and script for Root Of Evil, the pilot from the early version of the project under Larry Parr. The whole thing stalled for most of 1985 until Bryce Malek and Dick Robbins were tasked to relaunch once they finished on Transformers.

Can I just say...this is incredible. Thank you 1000 times over for doing this. You are spot on with your point about digital media slowly disappearing. This is truly appreciated.

 

I just hope it can inspire people out there who have paper items in their collections to come forward. Even if they cannot or will not do full scans, I'll gladly settle for a photo of dated cover sheets to add to the production timeline.

One major source I'm trying to investigate is the Madman Transformers DVDs. For as long as they have been releasing and re-releasing them (as late as 2017), they have promised scripts and storyboards on the extras disk. Do they have anything (I've been burned on that front before) and if so, what do they have? So far, haven't been able to find the answer. Living in the UK, getting my own copy is a tough proposition, especially when postage costs more than the actual item.

 

Been a while, so here's an update on what I've added in the last month

• The full storyboard for Origin Of The Spider-Friends, which I stitched together into a PDF from 98 jpg files from an old fan site
• The Incredible Hulk bible with story ideas from Don Glut (Bet you'll never guess what those story ideas are  )

Added a new section as the Bucky O'Hare DVD came through last week. The fourth (after TF, Inhumanoids and Visionaries) and final to get the full Metrodome treatment.
I've put up the 7 scripts not written by Christy. The other 6 are there on the DVD, but posting them is verboten and I'm not about to disrespect that. Also, managed to stitch together a sizeable Marvel Productions model sheet pack from one of the main fan sites.

Yeah, I don't know what Buzz was going for there. Something like this would work if it was an IDW thing, where the Joes are considered dead to the world from the moment they are recruited. But Sunbow Joes were pretty much known to everybody in-universe.
