I buy at least two of each for Bot and beast modes, but I have three primals to match with the Megatrons, and 4 cheetors cause I had two originals and two of the reissues. But Megatron my favorite figure and third favorite character

Is anyone else's main gripe with the voicebox not that it's in Japanese, but that it's a completely different portrayal of the character? If the Japanese BW dub was simply a translation and Shigeru Chiba was simply doing his version of the Western Megatron, I'd be happy with the voice gimmick and would have probably installed the batteries. I would be pretty satisfied with an Optimus Prime toy that uses Tessho Genda's voice (if not *as* satisfied as with Cullen). But Japanese Megs isn't a smooth, charismatic villain, he's a comedic buffoon who screams like a little girl, and that ruins the immersion for me.

Though at least it looks like Japanese fans are happy with the gimmick, so mission accomplished? I was under the impression that they hated the BW dub for the same reasons that we do (I know that Hirofumi Ichikawa does), but it looks like I was wrong.

People in Japan seem to enjoy things a bit different from "the west".

The little girl voice is not from Megatron but his ship's computer.

Pretty much, but then again the G1 cartoon and even moreso the live-action movies weren't screwed around as much as Beast Wars was. G1/Movie Optimus Prime in Japan is more or less the same character as in the West, it's clear that they were able to enjoy him in the same way. I'm sure they would have been able to enjoy a cold, menacing Beast Megatron just as much as (if not more than) the bumbling, comedic version they're used to. (Has Shigeru Chiba voiced any suave-sounding characters before? That could give us a pretty good idea of what a more faithful Japanese BW Megs could sound like.)

I was aware of that - it's the Predacon computer, which was turned into a new character (NAVI-ko) in the Japanese dub. According to TFWiki, Megs himself screams like a little girl when he gets hit or when retreating afaik.

Funny, the Japanese dub of Beast Wars predates the entirety of 4Kids' output from Pokémon onwards. Maybe it was the other way around?

Apologies if this has been asked before. Have been googling with no joy...

Is there an option to buy a standalone stand?

I won't be buying dinobot. Any custom clear plastic stands suitable?

check this link. this is from the KO dinobot. 10-15$ so far ohmyprimus(based in asia) is the only store offering it as of now. It is not a clear stand tho.

There isn't an option to by an official separate stand as yet...bit of an oversight, Megatron should have come with one IMO and if not a separate stand should be available. There are plenty of good 3rd party stands on the market although i am no expert.

    Cheers @JustineBW, ordered.

Agree that a stand should have been included. Excellent figure otherwise (minus the loose waist and arm strength)

Loose waist is definitely a known problem but arm strength isn’t. I believe Megatron has two joints in his shoulders and one of them is ratcheted. So he shouldn’t have any issues holding up the dino head if you’re using the right joint.

Haha. Thats how I interpreted BW Megs Seiyu voice clips as well! Lmao. Totally cool with that portrayal. Its too OTT not to admire the effort TT put into that aspect.

Totally. The BW Japanese voice cast definitely had a lot of fun in their roles and that's probably why they love it over there even though it's really cringy from a Western perspective. But the Megatron I know and love is a cold, charismatic villain with a buttery-smooth sexy voice, not an over-the-top comical wannabe cowardly tough guy who talks to an anime waifu computer.

Just for fun, I was musing the other day about the idea of TT producing yet another Beast Wars spinoff (a Pokémon crossover where the characters take Pokémon forms) and figured that Kaye's version of Megatron in the hypothetical English dub would be a sort of "abridged series" mix of his Japanese and Western personalities to fit the show's tone and animation (think TeamFourStar's version of Cell).

After mulling over the special offer I found on Taobao, and reading the overwhelming positive reviews all over the internet and this forum, I decided to bite the bullet and purchase Megatron for the equivalent of US$238 shipped. Crossing my fingers now that I get a good crotch piece. I already bought two of those KO Beast Wars stands, looks like they'll come in handy now.

Speaking of 3P stuff, is anyone working on a David Kaye sound board replacement?
