This is the rumor/leak that has apparently hinted at a lot of things that came true in this direct.

Giagantamaxing form changes are cool to me though and explain the Charizard

 

I'm underwhelmed by it honestly. I don't really see the need for another temporary boost thing that giant sizes Pokemon when they already introduced Mega Evolution and Z-moves in the previous generations, which I like so much more.

I am really liking the look of the new Pokemon they introduced today.

 

Very excited for the legendary "It's just a normal dog but he's got a sword". The raven and the turtle look pretty great too. Leon looks like a pretty cool champion, it's a shame his little brother looks like another friendly rival. Maybe there'll be a secondary asshole rival like Gladion we'll learn about later though. Funny that after gen 6 and 7's professors getting hotter and hotter, we're going back to a most definitely not hot old lady professor. I'm a bit hesitant towards dynamaxing. It's kind of boring compared to Mega Evolution and Z-Moves. What else is there to say, world design looks great, looks less linear than Sun/Moon. Seems like instead of routes there might just be the one big wild space

 

There are still routes, but the central area of Galar; The Wild Area is where it all opens up and you can rotate the camera, etc. Seems it starts where the lakes are and then goes up past the second bridge and ends before the large black-toned city.

 

Yeah, I think the "Wild Area" is a LOT larger than most people realize.

Zacian and Zamazenta names seem to be from shian and mazenta. The Japanese spelling for Cyan and Magenta.

If the other legendary is the one they were bracing for, it will surely have its name based off Yellow or black.

Since together they make the CMYK color model.

(even if the magenta seems to be more on the red scale side.)

Leon definitely gives me those vibes, with the "so popular and also undefeated" bit. Can't wait for the "I'm going to end this man's career" memes with these guys.

Not all that impressed with the Direct. The Legendaries look pretty bad this go around. There's an obvious late game turtle that I would like better if it weren't spelled out that it was for experienced trainers, implying it comes later.

Hope they tell us which Pokémon are raid exclusive and not too many are new ones so I can just transfer over Pokémon from past games instead of going through the trouble of going online.

Really wish those stadiums were actually sports instead of elaborate set dressing for Gyms. It does seem a little anime-esque because of the way contest halls worked there and there was always a Gym court. A plus side is that I can imagine the crowd as throwing Scottish jeers and getting freaking hammered like sports fans tend to.  

But the Wild Area looks like the kind of thing I play Pokémon for: sightseeing. To explore a world and listen to some catchy tunes. Although that it looks like a giant wilderness with no buildings or the like kind of dampens that. Hopefully they have a good few traditional routes and they are at times populated like Alola Route 2 and Route 8. Of course the region itself will have towns but unmitigated wilderness would just get tired.

Wish this had come up in the direct. It's a pretty cool but easy to miss feature. Looks like they are thankfully going to keep away from HMs.

Do wonder what the Standard Route 1 Normal type is for if not an HM slave? Wooloo is super cute plushie material but I don't know what it can do for a team unless it evolves into something really cool.

Cool. I saw in the trailer a Trainer wearing a different jacket too. Don't know which I want to choose, the brown haired girl or the blond one. The dark hair generally fits the region but the really pale look is pretty striking and makes me think of a relative of Lillie's.

It is too bad that there is less options than Gen 7; I guess my weird head canon family is over now. Although, the blonde one has Lillie's hair but my player character Luna's eyes... Even with transdimensional fuckery and Pokémon's advanced tech that probably wouldn't work.  

 

Some interesting points that seem to make this more likely. Still take it like a pinch of salt though.

The pokemon Sqwovet and Greedunt may have been hinted at based on a child in the stadium crowd wearing a shirt that has a fat black squirrel silhouette holding some sort of nut/berry/food. Would make sense that these pokemon are based on coveting food and greedy hoarding of berries.

The rumor also states you can play with your pokemon and interact with them to boost stats by Pokemon Camping. We see a scene where Sobble emotes with hearts like Pokemon-Amie and there is a tent in the background.

The leak talks about getting a sponsor to tackle the pokemon gym league, Leon has several sponsors it appears on the back of his cape.

It would explain Leon's Charizard and the Charizard blueprints in the professor's lab. Since new gimmicks seem to be around to make popular and mostly gen 1 pokemon get reintegrated via new forms. It would make sense to me that Leon being the champion has access to Gigantomaxing his pokemon specifically Charizard into a new form.

Only time will tell if true

 

While I'm extremely hyped for SwSh, I realized that the leaks with armored pokemon is fake, which means.. no armored Thunder Kitty ..... Or Mewtwo.....

 

OK, how can I summarize my thoughts? Aside from being super hyped by that Direct that is.

My first impression when I saw the new Pokemon was "All look great but Corviknight equals best one!"

My first impression when i saw that there was a free form camera in the Wild Areas was "HECK YEAH!!!!"

My first impression when I saw the Dynamax gimmick was "Kaiju batle in Pokemon?" while my second impression was "Jigglypuff's final smash has been canonized!"

My first impression when I saw Sonia was "Bae!" My first impression when I saw Milo was... actually I initially didn't think anything. It was only afterward when I thought, "That guy reminds me of Mirio from My Hero Academia".

I might bring up more stuff if I think about it.

 

I have an idea for a name of a Future Pokémon. Since the Fire starters focus on the Chinese Zodiac, if they made a Fire Ox, I can think of the name Toroch. Cross between Toro and Torch.
