You’re right, I mistyped that and meant to put “monster battles more than human drama.”

from the context one would have to conclude what was intended was an uninitiated, non-fan, someone going into this with little if any background knowledge beyond the basics.

For example, general audience members who would've turned out for Godzilla in 1998 might have seen it as akin to disaster movies of the time. The more fanboy-centric things get, the greater the potential to alienate the wider audience. The question is whether the trailers and advertising material offered enough of a draw to such audience members.

But we live in an age where people are more willing to accept the more outlandish of things in geek culture are we not? I mean we have a movie about a talking raccoon and a talking tree so how is it so different with giant creatures?

Okay, we've all been joking about him, but the novelization of this film does reveal, in fact, what Kong was doing when Ghidorah rises again.

It's a lil' cameo, but he's just chilling on his island, when he hears the siren sound of an alpha. A dreadful cry that seems to echo across the globe, commanding all titans to annihilate this feeble world, to destroy all humans!

    Kong ignores it.

Like Mothra, Kong is immune to an alpha's control. Besides, he's too busy beating up the skullcrawlers who are trying to escape the island and join Ghidorah's conquest. That's pretty badass.

perhaps. Although I think it's fair to say there is a Marvel fandom that's massively bigger than Godzilla fandom ever was.

You're mis-remembering. There was only one mural in the cave that depicted Godzilla fighting King Ghidorah. The rest were images of individual paintings depicting the four monsters by themselves.

Could exist a partnership between Warner/Toho with Kadokawa corporation to set Gamera in the monsterverse ?

I just watched the movie a 2nd time in 3D & was blown away. Everything people are bitching about is explained in plain English. The critics didn't pay attention & trashed the movie for no reason. If they watch it a 2nd or 3rd time they're going to feel totally stupid. Especially the 3 guys on the Angry Joe show. Everybody hated Emma Russell but she was right, she wasn't a bitch or a villain. Here's what a lot of people missed or didn't understand:

    1. Humans are destroying the Earth. Humans are a plague/disease. (Nobody wants to hear that but it's the truth. Just watch the news)
    2. Releasing the titans will restore balance & heal the Earth.
    3. The titans will restore the natural order but Ghidorah is not a part of the natural order.
    4. Ghidorah is a dragon that "fell from the sky", "from space" & "an alien". (They said this)
    5. Godzilla will control the titans & they will all heal the Earth. But if Ghidorah wins he will control all titans & they will destroy everything.

Here's some of the stuff the articles at the end said:

Titans are healing everything across the planet.
Rain forest popped up in the middle of the desert.
14 or 15 species have been taken off the endangered list.
    Possible titan rivalry noticed. (Kong?)
Monarch concentrating forces around Skull Island.
Skull Island has power to make everything grow super large.
    Titan activity beneath Skull Island.
Godzilla is keeping the other titans in check.

So yeah, I don't know why or how the critics missed all that but they just trashed the movie because they didn't listen or pay attention. It was all right there. There is nothing unspoken that you have to figure out on your own. If people could be made to understand the movie between now & next year they might get into Godzilla vs. Kong. But I doubt it. They're so fucking stupid what can you do? I'm not being mean, it's just the truth.

Everybody says the human plot is stupid & weak. But I totally disagree. I had no problem with any of the humans & I love how the movie keeps chugging along at a steady pace. Both times I saw it I left the theater wanting more. It went by so fast. I could watch it all day long.

Yeah, I usually enjoy Angry Joe’s reviews, but he & his friends were so off the mark on this one.

He ranted at length how the fights kept cutting away. I saw those fights, and the cutaways he’s talking about? You mean reaction shots to the carnage?? Cutaways to humans actually participating in the action? Oh nooooo... not that... okay, Joe.

    Couldn’t see the fights??? What???

Rain, snow, lightning & other weather obscuring the monsters?? I could see them just fine & loved that our monsters battled it out in all kinds of terrain & weather.

Stupid humans & their drama taking center stage & cheesing up the place? Uh... it may not have been the greatest story ever written, but I liked the cast & their drama was directly related to what was going on.
And especially in terms of Godzilla movies- this was probably one of the best human stories in any of them.
Seems like Joe & his buddies just don’t humans in their Godzilla movie, period, and would love nothing more than 2 solid hours of monsters fighting.
That’s just never going to happen. Humans are integral to Godzilla movies, whether it’s a commentary on war, society, or how we treat our planet, Godzilla is nothing if not an allegory for human failings. You kinda need humans in your Godzilla movie to convey all that.

That’s as much as I could watch of his review. I might attempt to watch the rest, but damn if he isn’t unreasonable in his fanboy-ness. And this is coming from someone that usually enjoys all his reviews!

The fact that you talk about Godzilla on the Internet tells me that you’re pretty far from a median audience member

Saw this tonight. Was worried about the critical reception but was still in for a good kaiju romp.

This wasn't a good kaiju romp.

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Saw it yesterday and absolutely loved it. Curiously my mother had the same complaints that the critics did about there being too much focus on the monsters. She realized that was the point though so she doesn’t hate the movie like critics do.

I’m surprised my parents recognized the Godzilla theme though. Wonder where they first heard it.

I’ve constantly how Godzilla’s roar was modified in this movie, how different is it compared to the 2014 one?

Oh yeah, I forgot, the end also mentions them finding a giant insect egg. Could be another Mothra since Ghidorah blasted her & she revived Godzilla. Or maybe hinting at Megaguirus?

I totally loved how they had Millie Bobbly Brown fighting Ghidorah at the end. It actually felt like she was going toe to toe with him. I was thinking they actually have the humans right up in Ghidorah's face. It was so cool. The way they shot it on ground level as she's running away with the Orca & Ghidorah is right behind her really made me feel how absolutely terrifying that would actually be. Then right as Ghidorah is about to blast her she turns around & faces him & screams at him. I was like "holy fuckin shit SHE'S AWESOME!!!" She's right up there with Ripley & Sarah Connor.

He also said Emma Russell was a total bitch & went off on her like she was a stupid villain. But she was right. She was trying to wake up all the titans & save the Earth before the military took over Monarch & killed all the titans. DUH! It was obvious they didn't pay any attention to the humans or their dialogue.

...caught a second screening. Unfortunately I found out it was the last night on the Imax screen, so I had to go for it. There are a few scenes where it's almost like you're there with the monsters 1:1. Full scale. Can't match that at home. I particularly liked some of the shots where they're looking head to head with Godzilla. I also can't match that sound system at home. Earth shattering. Neighbors would not be pleased. You really get a sense of something colossal sending deep vibrations.

Stuff I enjoyed the first time wasn't as great as I remembered, but stuff I thought might get annoying didn't. The climax is awesome, in the true meaning of the word. So many great moments, and you can actually hear the musical score; it's not just drowned out with noise and sound effects. There's a shot I like with radioactive Godzilla where we know he's approaching when a crane just melts.

Still a few things I didn't quite get, like the whole Fenway plan, but maybe it doesn't matter. They try to play things very emotional with the family stuff near the end, which didn't work for me, but it's not like my needs were being ignored. A ton of great stuff in there with Ghidorah, and Godzilla gets all the best entrances and reveals.

The only differense is they added the ending of the 54 roar at the end.
want to say around 16 second of the video is what they added.

Oh, they also added the classic Godzilla roar to the movie if you didn't catch it.It's right here if you want to hear it
