So this Batman movie is not part of the DCEU, correct?

THE BATMAN - Here's How Robert Pattinson Landed The Role Of The Dark Knight

Late last year, Reeves was asked about his take on the Bruce Wayne/Batman divide and which of them is real and which is the facade. Interestingly, when it came to his inspiration for how that aspect of the character will be handled, the filmmaker pointed to Jekyll and Hyde being a factor:
"I think that it’s interesting, because one of the things that I’ve found interesting, just as we’re working on the story, is looking back at Jekyll and Hyde, and the idea of your shadow-self, and the idea of, we are all multiple things. It’s different aspects of who we are, and I think there are times when maybe the surface of Bruce is not really who he is, but that’s his disguise. There are times when Batman’s the disguise, but there are times when his true essence comes out, because by being veiled, a kind of instinctual side comes out that’s very pure."

Every hero with a civilian identity has this issue.

    RUMORS
    - This adventure will be set during the 1990s.

    - It is planned to be a detective tale fully. The focus will be on Batman as a caped detective, no wonderful toys or ninja tactics.

    - Robin will appear, and will be both a success and failure for the Dark Knight. Not sure which Robin it will be.

    - The lead villain in The Batman is expected to be The Penguin. Catwoman is expected to appear, and maybe the Riddler. Whoever appears won't be too crazy, but will have their roots in crime (Cobblepot a kingpin, Selina a femme fatale, etc)

If it's set in the 90s then that's fucking stupid cause Pattison's Batman would be a 15 yr old crime fighter.

I mean... you DO know that Robert Pattinson would not be playing himself set in the 90's, yeah?

Yeah, I am beyond confounded at the thought process there. It almost sounds like he thinks they'll literally be traveling back in time to the 90's where a then 15 year old Pattinson would be playing the character...??

I love the idea of making it a real detective story. Seems we don’t see much of that in Bat films.

it might have something to do with this possibly being part of the shared universe..i don't even know if it is anymore to be honest...that batman might be too young in the 90s to be operating as batman? which....maybe? i mean late 90s ben affleck's batman would be mid 20s (taking into account affleck's real age).

pattinson might be too old to play a 25 year old. i don't know. this whole universe is confusing right now. either way 15 years old is way of the mark

This single post is more of a conundrum then the actual DCEU continuity. What in the who-ha does this mean?

To be honest, we don't see enough of that in the comics, either. I hope these rumors are true, aside from the '90s thing, I guess.

I don't understand the period film fixation with the current DC slate, either. Seems frivolous and unnecessary.

One idea that I had for a Batman film in this vein was regarding the special effects. As I've said earlier, they should keep it more grounded, with less gadgets and flashy effects. However, I think they can actually do some cool things with CG for Batman himself. For the sake of creating that urban legend/predator feel when he beats up mooks, I think it'd be really cool if they either rendered him entirely in CG, or at least CG enhanced him, so that he appears almost entirely as a shadow. Just a black silhouette as often as possible, as was frequently done in B:tAS. Really amp up that supernatural/paranoia feeling surrounding him. He can step out of the shadows when he's doing detective work, or against the actual villains, for the more personal feel. But mooks get the whole ghost in the night treatment.

I guess I'm going off the fact that this is tied into the DCEU and Pattison is in his 30s right now.

The DC universe is giving me a brain fart. They are all over the place with their separate movies and timeline.

If this movie were to take place in 1995, Ben Affleck would be 24, giving Patterson plenty of room to fit in the same timeline.

Plus, if I recall correctly, Bruce saw Excalibur in theaters, when he was 8, which came out in 1981. Which would make him 22 in 1995. Which gives them a whole 5 years to have it set in the 90's.

They can pretty much do it the way Captain Marvel did it, just have it generic 90's land USA, and it'd be fine.

Penguin - a short, obese man with a long nose, and he uses high-tech umbrellas as weapons.

Riddler - a criminal mastermind in Gotham City who takes delight in incorporating riddles and puzzles into his schemes, leaving them as clues for the authorities to solve.

Catwoman - a Gotham City burglar who wears a tight one piece outfit and uses a bullwhip for a weapon.

Firefly - a professional arsonist who attempts to burn all the places that he lacked the privilege to go as an orphan child.

Some neat adaptations with a fair balance of gimmicky and realistic IMO.

Yeah, but Pattison is playing a younger version of Afleck's Batman who is currently 46. So if modern Bruce is around the same age as Affleck and we're going back to the DCEU of the 90's... than Pattison will be playing someone in his 30s. About Pattison's age as even if it were to go all the way back to 1990 that would only make Bruce 29 if he's currently the same age as Affleck.

I like this... not too over the top and a little more down to Earth.
