To some degree, see also Chris Evans' pedigree prior to picking up the Steve Rogers/Captain America role. Between the two Fantastic Four films and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, he was sorta typecast into douchey, pretty/party-boy roles. Nobody really saw him as the charismatic Star-Spangled Avenger. But he knocked that one so out of the park that it's pretty much been his defining role (for better or worse) that a lot of people forget he was even in those previous films. And while he's been looking to move on from this stage of his career for some time now, just as with Robert Downey Jr, he's well aware of how people look up to him because of his portrayal of Steve Rogers, and that's very much shaped his persona as he's matured.

Well, Chris Evans was a pretty convincing superhero in Push.

You and the three other people who saw it should spread the word. ;)

It'll be fine. It survived Joel Schumacher, Val Kilmer, George Clooney, Arnold Schwarzenegger, sky surfing, the bat credit card, suit nipples, The Dark Knight Rises, Ben Affleck, Batman v Superman, AND Justice League, so Robert Pattinson is really the least of its problems.

I'm actually now convinced more than ever that he's probably set to blow us away. If they stuck with him and still officially cast him AFTER all this nerd rage shit that's been happening since he was first mentioned a week or so ago, they obviously know/see something we don't.

You realize he's been in more than Twilight right?

This is all just reminding me of past 'casting outrages'. Keaton was supposedly going to be a terrible Batman and Ledger was supposed to be a horrible choice for Joker and look how those turned out.

    I LIKED all of that.

Batman Forever, Batman & Robin, Batman V Superman, Justice League, I actually loved them.

This, however, is different because he’s marked himself by doing those movies, and nothing will remove the poison from those.

^This! Not to mention that Scarlett Johannsen was in some of those teen-centric films with him! And ScarJo even starred in a lot of Drama and romance movie before playing Black Widow. The MCU practically made her an action star! Heck, I bet if Tom Hardy had not starred in Inception people would be against his casting as Bane ("What!? That guy from This is War and Star Trek Nemesis!?"). People even bitched about Daniel Craig as Bond, some just because he had blond hair (THE HORROR!!). It's just yet another case of the "Heath Ledger Effect" as I like to call it. People just don't get the concept of ACTING.

I, for one, am exited to see what Cedric Diggory does with the role!

Nah, if you're the fan of all that other 'quality product' and were somehow able to look past Affleck's entire hilariously sad excuse of a career run to play the puffy alcoholic faced Batman that we all got, then by sheer default you are going to be MORE than fine with whatever it is that Pattinson ends up doing here regardless of his decade old vampire days. Seriously. Don't worry.

How has prfctcellrulz not been kicked yet good lord.

Pattinson is on par with Bale at this point in acting ability, I think he's gonna kill it. The real question is what story they decide to do first. I kinda want Court of Owls, and it being a trilogy, imagine a Mr. Freeze as the main villain for the second and then close with Joker.

All I know is, I'm far more optimistic with the Pattinson casting, than I was when Affleck first got the role.

Same. Pattinson might have played a sparkling vampire heartthrob 12 years ago, but Affleck played everything else... and Daredevil. And nothing will ever be worse than Daredevil.

If Kristen Stewart can get work after being Bella, so can Robert Pattinson.

And we may be going round in circles here, because as someone mentioned, Michael Keaton was criticized too.

Daredevil wasn't that bad IMO. It had Jon Favreau and Michael Clarke Duncan.

Daredevil is not in the same breath as the actual really bad comic book movies, and the director’s cut actually makes it an inherently average film.

It’s nowhere near Catwoman or Elektra or Fan4stic level.

Right who cares what he did before? If the existence of those movies offends you so much just ignore them.
