The mold itself is still great, so much so that I've never been fully on board with the v2 theories. I'm kind of swayed by your argument that they can't improve the tapes, and a v2 is unnecessary until they can. A + edition would have been a perfectly fine update and presumably would attract more buyers as well.

 

Based on @chchchch's digibash, I actually don't think MP-13+ would really look 'fine'. It was actually the last step in me joining @jackisking and @Dean ML on the v2 train. Perhaps Takara painted up their own mock 13+ (or have someone as good as @chchchch at digibashes!) and also decided that the + deco just didn't cut it?



It's a brilliant digibash, and if it came out I'd still buy it, but it's missing something (particularly in the legs).

Yep, my very first thought was "no + edition, v2 confirmed"   My next thought was "should I sell mine now before the reissue lowers my resale value"; does that make me evil?

That's how I would feel personally, but I could see those who hate the current aesthetic wanting a shot at this mold at a decent price.

I'm in the "this is the molds one last hoorah and we are getting V2" camp. I personally don't like the new MP style, but I'll get my MP-13 reissue, and I'll be happy for all you who get your soundwave V2.

 

Also, I'm guessing that $109 price is not MSRP but rather RobotKingdom's usual low price to offset high shipping?

It just seems like Takara is targeting a very specific market here of people who hate the current aesthetic and don't already own MP-13. I have to believe this market is far smaller than the people who like the current aesthetic and want an updated MP-13 whether they own the base version or not. And perhaps more centrally, why is Takara supporting an abandoned aesthetic? This is like Microsoft coming out with an update for Windows 8.1.

I really don't get the "+" line. Megatron went full toy with all the chrome. Laserwave went deep purple. Not quite toy but pretty close. Both, I feel are are valid and improvements. With Takara's focus on "toon" in the main line releases, it looked like "+" was going to become the "toy" decos... I guess "+" is just the opposite of whatever the original release was.

If there was ever an argument against "+" toon repaints, this is the poster child. That is god awful. They replaced all that beautiful silver with flat white. In a very strange decision, they left all the chrome in tact... What a mismatch. It would at least be consistent if they replaced it all. The "toon" deco is a stark contrast to all the molded detail. Just do a true 2.0 if you are going to go "full toon".

 

Boooooooooo I wanted a + version with + cassettes. Ah well. Cheers to those that have missed out on him before. Hopefully this also means maybe a Blaster is in the offing soon after all.

 

Considering the prices for MP nowadays, $110 is relatively cheap. 

 

Even on these boards, with people new to the line coming into the appreciation thread, a lot of these first-timers are looking for the best place to get MP-13, because he's sold out and expensive everywhere.

Will people buy a v2 Soundwave? Sure. Will the same people who have bought an MP-13+ buy a v2 as well? Well, maybe, but they might be a little annoyed about it. Maybe their logic is to keep us satisfied with MP-13 for now, and blow us away with a v2 in a couple of years.

Anyway, if this is Hasbro Asia then it isn't Takara supporting it.

Seems more like Hasbro Asia realising that the Chinese factory had a free slot at the end of this year, and deciding to throw out another run of an extremely popular mould into the wild (perhaps one last time).

 

I will probably pick this up if I can get it for a decent price.
