For those of you to young to know it they had paid 900 numbers aimed at kids and teens in the 80s and 90s! They were later banned but were all over the place for awile. Let's look at some of them! He-man and she-ra! Smurfs (with the real vas!)! Little monsters! Fresh prince with will smith!
Mac and me! (free poster!) Santa! Popeye! Atari 2600 And this is just a few kids and teens 900 numbers they had!
I vaguely remember there was a Knight Rider one featuring KITT, which I wanted to call but never did.
I so remember those days with these types of commercials back in the 80's and some 90's. I never could ever call those numbers cause in a way It's a legal scam actually to cost alot of money on your phone bill. Besides it being really expensive on your phone bill at that i would get in trouble if you know what i mean. I think where i used to live in NW Indiana there was a 3 Stooges number. It would flash at night to call while you where watching 3 Stooges on tv. It would go across the bottom of the screen or it would be on the sides of the tv screen while they (3Stooges) where being shown on fox channel. I don't remember alot of these commercial ones that where posted. I know there was plenty of them and another was that Tarot card reader lady. She got into trouble back then (90's) i think for doing those readings or something i don't remember everything about it.
Here is the first kitt ad. There is a second with kitt saying you will hear a knight rider story told by him but i can't find the ad. Want the cory's phone number? Just call a paided number to get a number! Makes sense to me! It's freddy pumpkin plus those free toys again from the santa ad. Tone loc had one also!
Paula abdul is waiting for your call! She will get your message! Promise! (and you get a tapped recording. Lol.) Star trek 4 one! This plays the recording you got when you called! Call the tiny dinos! Will they say "not the mama?" Warrant likes to rock! Fans come first you know! Man these have been cheesy fun!
Oddity Archive did some bits on this. Slightly NSFW. (or not, can't remember, but saying this just in case)
I remember some of these. I never called any as my parents always told us kids no, but I do remember one of my younger brothers getting into the worst trouble of his life when he called one as a kid (he was probably seven or eight) and he was waiting on the phone for them to come on... got bored and put the phone down to come back to later. One of the gimmicks they liked to use was to keep you on hold for some time before you got a chance to speak with the "celebrity" you were calling since they charged you an astronomical amount by the minute. I think someone eventually saw the phone off the hook and just put it back and didn't think anything of it until my parents got the phone bill and wanted to know who spent all that time on a He-Man hotline. Haha. He still holds a grudge for being made to work that off as a kid...
I know OF these things but I don’t recall if they were ever available in Aus. I mean we had the “adult” ones obviously. But I don’t remember any for cartoons.
Call the new kids hotline. It will blow your mind forever! Tiffany (remember her? She was the mall diva singer!) whats you to call her ok. Kiss will tell you about their new album and stuff. Hammer time! It's hammers hotline! You might even get a joke or a ryme!
You can be a star! It's American idol on the phone! You have a full 20 seconds to show your stuff! Also lol at the girl who can't act asking "can you act?" Umm. ET report on 900 numbers. Want to hear freddys deadtime stories? Here is a few. It's the 80s so of course stories aimed at kids are full of curse words.
"Pick up the phonnneee!" Oops.. sorry, that's a different type of 900 hundred line that was shown non-stop on USA network late night. Keep 'em coming. THese are bringing back memories!
