It's basically an upscaled Legends Gnaw. I'm totally good with that as it scales better with CHUG.

    Time to army build...again

I can excuse something like ARMADA for some of it's design choices as the statements around that brand were that they wanted to used fewer ball joints to make the toys less likely to be pulled to pieces when a kid tried to Transform them (and didn't really know what they were doing). but Armada toys were at least not totally lacking in effort they were sometimes outright bizzare but they were not bad in all respects, they were made from decent plastic, had gimmicks that "mostly" worked & the Minicons were tiny plastic joy.

But RID Warrior class had a significant dip in quality in terms of design implentation and paint, they used parts that would shed like dog hair (especilly clip on wheels) and there was the brand fragmentation issue from to many Bumblebees and product sub-types on top as well.
They did mostly attempt to paint them - (well compared to a Transformers Prime Arms Micron toy anyway) The minicons were not as good as previous ones - but neither were they insultingly bad either - just a bit lacking in paint & movement.

But here we are now, super-light, super hollow toys with below the bare minimum of paint. Still have a tendency to fall to pieces and basic joints are missing. as are accessories.

The real killer is that I can say without irony that in some cased I genuinely prefer the One-Steps over the Warrior Class.

Now I understand Hasbro has issues with increased Transport, Manufacturing costs and Oil prices on plastics giving them a hit - but others seem to find ways around this that they don't & ultimately if they made smaller toys of decent quality I'd be OK with that.

But the poor Siege line - it's a much better toyline than Cyberverse - it's actually fun to play with as well as look at - sure it has some quirks too - but they don't usually detract from the experience. so here we are with a toyline based on a surprisingly OK cartoon (yeah I was shocked it didn't totally suck too) that fails to do justice to the designs and then a really good toyline with lousy distribution and no marketing.

They really need to ditch this whole idea of kiddy lines and perhaps raise Rescue Bots up a hair to Playskool Gobots levels and use Bot bots and the like to get people in the brand - and then just have one mainline for kids 6 & up something similar to Transformers Prime toys perhaps. with a lot less of the Modern RID / Cyberverse sillyness of brand fragmentation too.

No joke, the Wave 3 One-Step Megatron is by far the best of the Cyberverse Megatron's so far. It's much better than the Warrior, Ultimate and Scout Classes and I much prefer it to the Wave 2 One-Step. I'm hoping the Armor Megatron tops it, though.

So Hasbro avoids referring to Liokaiser's Deathsaurus by his actual name in Generations - a collector-oriented line - but has no issues using a character with "Dead" in his name for the line aimed at small children.

It's frustrating because Cyberverse has some interpretations of characters that I really like, but I'm never going to be able to get a decent toy of them. I wouldn't mind so much if the warrior class toys were better, but they're a clear step down from even the RiD ones.

I absolutely agree, there are too many lines on the shelf, too many variants of the same characters when one line for smaller children and then a mainline with everything else in would just kick ass.

Armada is a good example, they were a step down in many ways from Beast Wars and RID but it made sense because those toys lost parts and got broken really easy, but by the time they got to Energon and Galaxy Force they were knocking out solid toys with gimmicks and great articulation - when was the last time we even had a firing missile or lights and sound in a mainline toy. As a parent I know those are the things kids love, integrate those with great design and everybody is happy!

Well, there's also Dead End, so maybe context matters?

I'm not a kid, and I love spring loaded missiles. I would love if we got more figures with firing missiles.

Prowl and Soundwave look kind of nice, but since we have Siege Prowl I will pass the cyberverse. I might pick Soundwave since he will be more budget friendly for me.

I personally think the missile function in Cybervese one-step Wheeljack would be great for widespred adoption, great for display's and you can't loose the part.

As far as firing missiles, Generations had them. Deluxe Warpath and WFC Megatron, Voyager Springer, Leader Jetfire all come to mind. Also Reveal the Shield Voyager Lugnut. But all those are at least five years old now. So it's possible we haven't had mainline firing missiles for five years at the most recent, though I imagine there cold be more recent ones I'm forgetting or didn't even know about. Personally I'm not sure how I feel about them. I don't really use them myself, and I hate how easily lost they can be, not least because things that have firing missiles usually look pretty weird if the missile is missing.

The most recent I can think of with sound is DotM Leader Sentinel Prime, though that's another feature that could be more recent than I remember. I'm not much a fan of lights and sounds myself, these days. It's just annoying to me when I accidentally set it off while trying to do something else. Armada Megatron is a great example, it's super easy to set off his "Decepticons, ATTACK!" sound byte. I think what's worse for me though is that figures with voice clips almost never sound even remotely like their show/movie counterparts. Again, Armada Megatron is a perfect example of that.

I am a fan of gimmicks as long as they don't bring down the quality of the figure, particularly in terms of articulation, though, so I wouldn't mind seeing some fun little functions coming back. Just as long as they don't do anything like that old Deluxe Optimus figure that has the button on the back that makes his torso spin around for some sort of "punching" feature.

I think the most recent figure with sound was TR Fortress Maximus? Unless you count Masterpiece figures, in which case, it's Megatron

I figured there had to be stuff I wasn't aware of. I've only just gotten back into collecting, so I wasn't following very closely for a good while.

I'm making an exception as well. I'll consider getting Alpha Trion, too depending on his arm articulation.
