I have such a love-hate relationship with this guy. There are countless times where I wish I could just snag a MTB/DOTM and throw this one to the dumpster. Times where I try to paint and mod him up. Times where they end with me loving him. Or hating him even more. And times where I just wish I could grab a fresh new copy and start over.

Unlike other SS figures (Lockdown, Jazz, Ironhide), I struggle warming up to him in even the slightest. I detest him, but I want to love him so much.

I’ve painted him at least three times already, in just 10 months.

Black or silver, which looks best? The cycle just goes on and on until he looks no different to what a little child and a marker would do. He has limits, and he can’t take it no more.

And his legs. His goddamn motherf*cking legs. Why do they need to be so f*cking useless?

People keep telling me “but he looks good in paint and if you cut his roof and pour his legs with floor polish!”. The problem is, I’m a shitty painter, I did the roof mod and I messed it up, I’ve used floor polish twice and they always go back to shit in a month. With barely any playing. I’ll just be throwing money to the drain with a new copy.

I really don’t know... Well, I’m happy for you guys who like him for who he is. I’m not.

 

Wow man sorry you hate him so much. I didn’t think anyone had strong feelings towards this ratchet one way or the other. To me he’s serviceable (after paint and mod) and not great or terrible. He looks like ratchet in both modes, and scales well at least in bot mode, so I’m happy. Ratchet isn’t a character I’m super attached to anyways, because despite being in four movies, he barely did anything. Ironhide is way more interesting to me character and design wise.

 

I love this figure but the backpack is annoying. Hopefully if they ever tackle this Bot in the future they'll fix it!

 

I made a reel that shows simply how to do the backpack mod. I think everyone who has the figure should do it. I've done it on all 3 of this mold that I've owned (original, dotm, premium finish).
