I can answer that one:
Mindwipe and co were also the size of Galvatron in Rebirth.
Logic dictates that the Monsterbots are voyager sized.
And in that picture with Wideload perspective was at play.
The Horrorcons are obviously voyager sized, no matter what the charts say.

 

I'm sorry I'm just laughing at the idea of "logic dictates" in a cartoon about transforming alien robots that was riddled with inconsistencies, nonsense, errors, and a physics issue so mind-blowing that subsequent material had to invent the concept of magical "mass-shifting" to explain it.  

As I said the toy will undoubtedly be voyager-sized or larger because that's what is required to incorporate the gimmicks, not because of some size-orthodoxy of a character who appeared sporadically in 3 episodes.

 

I'm torn between wanting a toy-accurate "headmaster is head of robot AND beast modes" and Rebirth accurate "headmaster just does robot mode head"...

 

I can see them going for Rebirth accuracy In order to not sacrifice beast mode head sculpt.

 

I could see them doing beast mode heads just to give themselves the option of later reusing them as Generations Selects homages to TM Primal and Megatron from Beast Wars.

 

I prefer Rebirth style personally. I could see them doing a beast head "helmet" that goes over the head master for beast mode, giving us the best of both styles.

 

Part of me hopes that, if this apeface actually exists, is a Commander Class like Jetfire. I can totally get behind a giant mechanical decepticon gorilla on my shelf.

 

"scale chart is inconsistent" is the dumbest thing I've heard today. The official, original reference charts are from the original G1 bible intended to dictate the scale for each character, that's not what inconsistent means. Especially when what you're finding inconsistent is the animator's attempt at following the reference material.

The scale chart shows them as Voyager anyway.

 

Some people were talking earlier in the thread about trying to find a way to flip the Headmaster around so one side had the robot head and one the animal head--even though he might end up some kind of Janus faced monstrosity with another face always on the back of his head. The helmet idea--think Scorpinock or TR Overlord--might be a neat way to get around the issue.

True I did misspeak. The application of the chart was inconsistent. That is what I should have said.
However I still maintain that to insist on it being some kind of "bible" is ludicrous. It was a general guide for the animators, who also frequently deviated from it because of plot demands, laziness, and production short-cuts. It also was never intended to dictate the size of a toy line 30+ years after the fact.
But this threatens to spill into an actual size discussion, which everyone has already been warned about.

Commander class is way too big! I’m open to leader-class though. If Apeface is as big as Optimus/Megatron, I think I’d be okay with that. But if he was as big as Ultra Magnus... I don’t think I’d dig that.

Yeah,that is too big. I'm fine with Apeface being a Voyager,myself. Now if Hasbro made a Commander-sized Sky Lynx or Tidal Wave,I'd be tempted.

Yeah at this point I'm saving all my hopes to make that Astrotrain rumor true but nobody's heard of that one either.

 

Never underestimate the selling potential of a black and purple D liste Deceptagoon and fan speculation.

I rather hope we do get a Deluxe/Voyager Apeface. There's no reason to doubt that with the Headmaster gimmick well and truly sunk into Generations now it can be assumed it's not going anywhere, look at TLK/SS Nitro/KSI.

Personally, I hope they revised the voyager listing and do both Apeface and Snapdragon as Leaders.
This way they will be old voyager size as they should be.

 

Or the even-smaller voyager sized (like Shockwave!) with armor, since that's how leaders are in Siege right now. Personally I'd be happy if he was even a Prime/Megs sized voyager, but I'm not counting on it.

My love for this character is that I had him as a kid, and it was my last big transformer figure from g1. And he was just so much fun. He's the same one in my current collection except his gun and HM (replacements bought at Botcons past). Having a good-sized update of this guy would make me very happy. I'm glad to see a lot of enthusiasm for a possible release for him, too. Admittedly kind of surprised, but still cool!

 

Apeface, Snapdragon and Doubledealer would make a nice Voyager-class triumvirate of triple-changing beastly bots.

 

Ape, dragon and eagle! If Snapdragon was more of a sea serpent you’d have land, sea and air neatly covered. I can’t wait for all three to be finally updated Siege-style.

I was thinking they would end up Ultra Magnus's combined size (which is about old voyager size), and the extra budget would go to making them really good triple-changers with improved beast modes and to making the titan master gimmick work for all three modes while enabling the little guys to sit in the cockpit in vehicle mode.
