I think FT really stole the thunder from DX9 on this one and now Capone is possibly delayed until early next year? XTB was smart to go low price and see how that strategy works out, I may pick them up as a secondary set since they are more affordable and fairly toon accurate.
yo . Im new here , but consider me going all out on this set . I always have faith in DX9 because of brillant engineering and dead on face sculpting , and this one is no exception. DX9 Montana. They really capture the villainous nature of a Stunticon member. Personally I think this is the right scale , villain car bigger than frienly car is always my belief. Here are some of my pics. Kinda sad that the paintjob is not very durable , I got some slight paint chip at the thigh , will fix later.
What this person said ---^ Please post your source if you're going to say something like, DX9's next is delayed to 2020.
I have a pal who's pretty connected and he had a source who's an engineer at DX9 who initially told them all remaining three Stunticons would be released by September but has ghosted him of late, so take that for what it's worth. I've defended the DX9 Stunticons -- especially in comparison to XTB -- more than anyone on this board, I feel like, but I've already bought the FT MM, despite my reservations about its backpack and the coloring of its arms and legs, and I'm pretty much resigned to having to make the switch to FT to complete the set. I haven't completely given up and sold Henry and Montana yet, but I have way more faith at this point in FT finishing their set before DX9 does and if Spoiler gets released before the third DX9 figure, I'm selling 'em.
Perhaps your source of a source was found out as leaking info and was ghosted by DX9 because of it? Just throwing that out there.
As I understand it, all these designers are independent contractors and don't really work for specific companies anyway, so they just go from company to company working on individual projects.
That might explain why FT Tesla's face & FT WIllis' olive colored face look like they were designed by folks from XTB/KFC.
This is not exactly bad news. Many people are on the fence. When the next two bots are out, there will be renewed interest in them, especially that they are much closer to the 'finish line'. Combiner teams are more risky, IMO, because someone skipping it means he skips five figures.
Or not. Over in the FT Roadking's thread, a bunch of people have already said that they are abandoning XTB. I am still buying Deathwish at the very least in addition of already having the first 2 bots.
fanstoys bois are truly something. when the products are mediocre at best they will still maintain their pink glass and hail them as best figure ever. But that's just their opinion. I don't like Roadking at all. Still think DX9 look best , very in character.
Tesla Rouge Apache Sovereign Phoenix Lupus Hydra Hoodlum Roadking Spindrift Terminus Other figures like their Hound and Insecticons imo is overrated The dibots are all good and great figures. Koot is great, not very good transformation design but I enjoy him when I still have him.
Surprised to see Phoenix listed there. I don't think I've heard a negative thing about him - until now.
Phoenix is literally a brick. With limited articulation. Waist and ankle. Combine with the weird helmet. If I can downscale the detail on Siege Jetfire then it will be miles better than Fanstoys Phoenix. Fun transformation , great articulation and dead on headsculpt. Too bad it doesn't have diecast and metallic paint - what fanstoys bois craving for
Honestly, my view of FansToys is mostly that their designs and engineering are quite good overall, but so many of their fans I encounter are downright toxic. I'm probably in the minority only owning about 4 of their releases, but the ones most people didn't like (Spindrift, Rouge) are the ones I own and really like. Koot looks fantastic, but is a PitA to transform. Apache is great, but at his price should be leaps and bounds better than all my other Springers, but he isn't. I think the higher prices and limited production runs have created this misplaced belief in their fans that their quality and source adherence is much greater than it really is. That's not to say they're bad, by any stretch, but IMO, they're nowhere as good as their fans vehemently insist they are. For now, I'm gonna keep holding out for DX9's other members, but still keep my eyes on FansToys. Honestly, XTB's pricing is fantastic, but unless there are even further price discounts, their design and engineering just isn't swaying me much.
Me too. I'm usually the first person to give Fans Toys a hard time when I have issues with one of their figures, and I think I can agree with most of @Phamduc's list having some issues (and I'll toss in my two cents and say that I don't think Quietus or Dracula, while better, really lived up the FT hype, and even though he liked it I didn't care for Koot). But Roadking and Phoenix are probably my two favorite things FT has done. (Actually, for the record, I rather like Sovereign, too. I just freely admit that he's a pain to transform. I guess it just doesn't bug me as much as, say, Rouge, because Galvatron's alt mode is rubbish in the first place.) That's why I kind of don't care who makes a figure anymore. Everyone's got their good and their bad, so I just take each figure as they come... it'd just be nice if another one of DX9's Stunticons would actually do so. There's things I like about all the MP Stunticons out so far, and for me the jury is still very much out on which one gets to be my combined-mode Menasor.
I kinda don't get the complaints against Roadking. I can definitely admit I was all over MP-44's giant backpack, but in the case of Roadking, while it's not ideal, I feel its very easy to accept it given that it basically takes the relative surface area of the entire MP-10 trailer, folds and compacts it down primarily into his back and still maintains a pretty clean, condensed look. I think once he's in combined mode it probably won't stand out one bit from the back or side view. In a roundabout way, it mostly reminds me of Age of Extinction Galvatron. You knew much of his outer shell was all folded down inside his back, but you hardly noticed it at all, not least given that it was only a $25USD investment at the time.
