Yeah, history doesn’t record that Hitler died from machine gun fire in a burning down movie theater.

Besides... this film doesn’t seem to be about the Manson murders; they just seem to be the backdrop of the film.

Which is what bugged me about the (completely unrelated to anything about this film) Black Dahlia Movie from several years ago- it was more of a backdrop to the film than the film was about the murder.

I didn’t realize this was actually coming out so soon. I thought for sure it would be a Fall release. I didn’t even watch 90210, but even I felt kinda sad when Luke Perry’s name popped up too.

As on old fan of the original 90210, I thought this was pretty cool...

Brad Pitt and Leo DiCaprio were starstruck by Luke Perry on 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood' set: An 'icon of coolness'

In an interview with Esquire promoting Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, the pair talked about working with the late Beverly Hills, 90210 actor, who played a fictitious TV actor in the upcoming Quentin Tarantino film before his sudden death in March. While Pitt and DiCaprio are two superstars and icons themselves, they admitted they both fanboyed out over Perry.

“‘That’s Luke f***ing Perry!’” Pitt, 55, recalled thinking when he saw Perry on the set. “We were like kids in the candy shop because I remember going to the studios and [Beverly Hills, 90210] was going on and he was that icon of coolness for us as teenagers. It was this strange burst of excitement that I had, to be able to act with him.”

Pitt called Perry, who was starring in Riverdale when he died, “incredibly humble,” “amazing” and “absolutely committed.” He said Perry “couldn’t have been a more friendly, wonderful guy to spend time with. I got to sit down and have some wonderful conversations with him. It was really special.”

DiCaprio, 44, said he had a similar reaction.

“I remember my friend Vinny, who is in the film as well, we walked in and we both had this butterfly moment of like, ‘Oh my God, that’s Luke Perry over there!,” Leo said, likely referring to his co-star and friend Vincent Laresca.

Tarantino, who also took part in the interview, said he went to Perry’s memorial three days after he finished editing together Perry’s final scene in the film, which is about a faded TV actor (DiCaprio) and his stunt double (Pitt).

In the interview, it was pointed out that Pitt, DiCaprio and Tarantino all came of age in this industry at about the same time. Pitt’s Thelma & Louise, A River Runs Through It and Interview with the Vampire came out in ’91, ’92 and ’94 while DiCaprio appeared in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape in ’93. Tarantino, 56, released Reservoir Dogs in ’92 and Pulp Fiction in ’94.

Their rises coincided with Perry’s TV stardom. From 1990 to 2000, he played heartthrob Dylan McKay on Beverly Hills, 90210. He died March 4 at the age of 52 after suffering a massive stroke.

I think those 2 are just bullshitters and wants brownie points for Luke's passing. What a bunch of assholes.

Wow, so they're bullshitters AND assholes because they paid respect to a fellow co-star who died because, for some alarmingly weird reason, you just don't happen to personally believe them? Are they bullshitting by paying respect to Burt Reynolds in that same interview too?

I've seen people make some big reaches to hate on actor X or Y, but this is one of the more extreme cases.

I call bullshit not for the fact they respected his passing but being giddy like a bunch of school girls meeting an actor who hasn't been relevant for 2 decades while they are the two biggest stars in the world sounds phony as fuck and trying to win brownie points.
If they were working with Harrison Ford and he passed then being giddy to meet him is more believable.

I don’t think it’s that unrealistic. DiCaprio was relatively unknown when that show first aired, and he became a similar teen girl sensation not long after his big break. Pitt was really only known for Thelma and Louise in 1991 before he also became a big star. Maybe it’s just because of my roots, but I feel like I’d still be star struck by old TV stars I used to admire even if I became more famous than them.

Yeah... Pitt and DiCaprio - two of the biggest movie stars in the world - are starving for "brownie points", and piggybacking off of Luke Perry's death for them.

But as the article itself highlights and reminds everyone, 90210 started in 1990 and was one of THE biggest shows on TV from then onto MANY years after. I'm a year younger than DiCaprio and distinctly remember what an insane phenomenon that it was back when I was still in junior high. Pitt and especially DiCaprio, back then, were still just blips on the radar. Hell, DiCaprio was just barely getting no-name gust star roles on sitcoms and hadn't even landed his first 'major' role on Growing Pains yet. So, yeah, these guys 100% abso-fucking-lutely watched 90210 like the rest of the teenage-early 20 year old's of the planet did, and Luke Perry definitely would have been a big deal to them. Big stars NOW or not - they obviously remember when they weren't and he was. It is literally no different than Harrison Ford in way of life influence or impact.

Also, more to the point, it was just a cool & nice little article remembering someone they just worked with and apparently used to look up to. You really didn't need to swoop in JUST to shit on it and derail everything.

So a few tidbits about the Manson subplot in this movie. Apparently, Charles Manson is only in one scene of the movie. He’s also being played by Damon Herriman; who is also set to play Manson again in the second season of Netflix’s Mindhunter. It’s not the role I’d want to be typecast as, but he gets to work with Tarantino and David Fincher as well as a nice paycheck out of it, so what do I know?

This is the only bit that seems off to me -- if Brad Pitt is 55, then he would have been 26 when 90210 debuted in 1990.

    Otherwise, I think it's a nice little write-up.
