So. Is this TCG any good? I don't really have any intentions of playing the game, but I love collecting cards for the sake of character and design etc. I used to collect a crap ton of Pokemon cards just for the fun of it.

But I've been on the fence about this. What do you guys think?

 

Fantastic game, hard to find friends to play

 

As someone who has never played a TCG, I really enjoy this. Its fun to build around certain characters and try things out. Unfortunately it can be difficult to get people to play because Transformers is a niche property so if you aren't into TFs, you probably won't give this a go.

 

I actually really enjoy this game a lot! I think the cards themselves have a very great "Hook" for collecting purposes. Character cards are much larger than "normal"/"standard" TCG's or CCg's, which itself offers a lot of room for very bold and bright art choices. That, tied with the Transformers property mean that sets can have multiple of the same character, while still making most the the different character cards feeling unique in some capacity.

In terms of the actual game itself, I have to say that I enjoy it a great deal more than I thought I would. It fills that nice medium to medium-lite complexity level that most CCG/TCG's seem to avoid. Mechanics that build on/compound older mechanics, that don't often break the game down into to overly fiddly minutia, but still offers a good amount of depth and growth potential. Plus the game can play very, very fast which is very handy at times!

But, as Wreckgar pointed out it is a bit of a niche property, and niche game style, so it could be a bit difficult to get people who have no interest in the Transformers property, interested in the cards/card game itself.

I can say that for me personally all I need to do is find people locally that would be interested in playing it, and for me to not be so darn lazy all the time!

 

So having looked into it, I don't think I'm going to go into this. Not anytime soon at least. Yes the cards look great, but from what I've seen the ratio of character cards (the ones I'd want to collect and focus on) and the battle cards, is incredibly skewed. A $15 has 44 cards. Of those 44 only 4 are character cards, while the rest are battle cards. A Pokemon set on the other hand would have that switched. Personally those numbers aren't very appealing. Especially when I have other collection related figures and items I want to focus my money on.

A pack has 7 battle cards and 1 character card. Seige packs will have 6 battle cards and 2 characters (1 large, 1 small).

 

I was referring to the boxed starter set. How much do the blind backs tend to go for?

 

4ish dollars.

The Starter-set is really only if you want those versions of those 4 characters. The cards are all fixed so after that is only useful as a teaching tool...

 

I see. Well I might pick up a blind pack or two next time I see any.

 

Hey guys, long time magic the gathering player here, I have some questions since I love the toyline and want to try the game:

1. As I assume it's not a really good idea to buy a booster box, I mostly want characters from wave 3 because the art is awesome and have most of the toys in a shelf. Which product would be the best to get into the game? is there a Bundle equivalent?
   
   
2. Can you play the game in a limited environment (open a low amount of boosters and deckbuild with it)?
   
   
3. What about the super rares (OP and Megs), if I buy a booster box my chances would be as extremely low to get one like the wave 1 odds stated above? Should I just buy singles instead? where can I get them (NAmerica region)?
   
   
4. Id really love to assemble two decks (OP vs Megs and company) for casual play, I just wanna play with my brother and buy some boosters once in a while, so no, I don't want to spend as much as good standard mtg deck ($100 to $600 usd), are decks worth that much?

1- I think Booster Box is the way to go. A box is a little less than $100 and you get 30 packs. Wave 1 has a 1-72 ratio of a super rare but wave 2 was much better. I had 4 boxes and nabbed 4 SR cards. I think the official ratio was 1:50. Also per wave 2 box, It seems people are pulling 4-5 rare/super rare cards.

2 - Actually one of the seemingly preferred methods of play is sealed booster. I have done 2 pack sealed and 6 pack sealed draft. Both are fun.

3 - See #1 for ratios. Card shops, Walmarts, and Targets are the best bet. I have heard Barnes and Noble as well but haven't seen them. Also there are plenty of online retailers. If you are looking for specific cards, I would suggest ebay or TCG Player.

4 - There are everything from Common to Super Rare of both Megatron and Optimus. I would look at Pojo.com and go through the wave listings. They have everything broken down by rarity and where you can find it. For instance if you don't care at all and just want to have fun, there is a wave 1 starter with Optimus, Ironhide, Red Alert, and Bumblebee as well as a wave 2 starter with Megatron, Starscream, Windblade, and Bumblebee. None of them are powerful but for casual play, you might have some fun.

 

Note that for Seige specifically OP is rare and Megatron is Super Rare.
