I'm not a fan of his Batman run at all, but I still would hate to see that happen. I'd rather they just let him finish the thing he set out to do, even if they have to undo it right away.

DC has a pretty long history of dumping a writer before doing a major turning point story that editorial already approved. Veitch's Swamp Thing jumps to mind. Along with JH Williams III's Batwoman marriage story. But maybe in this case, DC is getting cold feet because of the fan backlash to King's work on Heroes in Crisis.

I hope this isn't true. And what King said on Twitter is "So many kind notes. You all rock." Let's wait until an official response has come. It'd also be weird for his 100 issue story to end, and for this to happen a few days after his "generation change." An optimistic viewpoint of this rumour might be that he might be able to tell the story he wants to, but with a fewer issues. But only time will tell.

This is weird. I don't read King's run, have always gotten conflicting opinions and it was in the 60s by the time I'd started buying DC books at all etc. so I'm skeptical towards his work but don't actually know.

But this is still weird. It feels wrong. He was near the end. He will still be near the end. He's still working at the company so I assume it is a creative thing and nothing serious. Maybe I would've hated the change, maybe it would've been loved, again I don't know I was still figuring out his run, but this situation isn't a great look right now.

If they were going to shoot down an idea of his, it should have been what happened to Wally. And if they were going to shoot down this Batman idea, whatever it is, they should have done it when he brought it to them. I just don't like when they approve something but then chicken out later and then end up having to fire someone when it was all completely avoidable.

I would’ve liked to see where his 100 issue run would’ve went, but I guess we’ll just have to make due with this.

Kind of feels like Roberts with MTMTE\LL all over again, which he had to cut corners with due to the continuity ending.

At the same time, I’m curious who’s going to takeover Batman after him...

As one comment I saw, “I’m not a fan of his work, but I don’t a like a man not getting to finish his arc.” Or something along that line.

    Aw...

Well, here’s hoping he’s able to wrap his run up with the remaining 14 issues he has, and he’s able to implement the “generational” change at the end.

So, only The Flash remains as the title that’s not had a change with the writer.

As for who will take him over...who knows. Bendis?

Although...this hasn’t been officially confirmed by King or DC Comics yet. So let’s wait and see.

I remember a similar situation happening with the TV show Red vs Blue. The main writer for seasons 15 and 16 wasn’t able to write season 17 to complete the trilogy due to having projects, but he outlined the story, and brought in other writers to finish the job. Maybe something like his will happen.

AAAAAUUUGH. Our big chance to finally see Frank draw the JSA and he draws Hawkman with the wrong mask. How depressing. He went to all the trouble to even have them seated in the same positions as their original comic cover appearance. But Hawkman, longstanding JSA chairman, and the ONLY character in the entire JSA lineup to appear in every single issue of their original run, gets drawn wrong.

This would be like Marvel doing a flashback to the X-Men's first appearance and Angel, Beast, Iceman and Marvel Girl are all wearing their X-Men #1 uniforms, but Cyclops is inexplicably wearing his post-graduation costume. As a huge JSA fan, this is a big disappointment for me.

To be fair, they've been playing with that idea forever.

Haven't read many of my other books for the week yet...

But I hope that the Arkham Knight becomes a modern day classic villain in Batman's gallery. Probably a shorter way to say that but the point is

    wow

I already liked it so far but that origin was pulled off so well. Everything about her is perfectly executed and I want a BTAS quality adaption so everyone else can be excited. Her position among other villains is earned, it's so easy to believe her fanaticism against Batman and everything else and I even kinda care about her father.

    wow

Having read Detective Comics #1004, I agree as well.

I'm quite interested though how old Batman is, because of
how she was born around the time most of Batman's main list of villains were already adults and established character. But then again, it doesn't detracts me from the story.

I liked this detail before continuity ever crossed my mind because it fits his role in the story

but you never actually see Batman which makes continuity less jarring

Also anyone aging ever highlights that Batman possibly doesn't so yeah still an interesting point.

I'm willing to give the big 2 more leeway from my usual continuity madness, for my own benefit I guess but it would be interesting if age did play into any adaption in other media. Doesn't have to be a big deal or an old man bats, but you could do something. Maybe know at the start of the (lets say) show that closer to the end you'll be doing the Arkham Knight. Or just give him a little bit of grey in his still-brown hair for something simpler. Trying not to get into this too much because I will descend into madness but it is interesting.

We do see Batman, but I also don't really let continuity bother me that much with the big two, otherwise then reading would be a pain:

The monitor on the left shows Batman with his purple gloves, implying it's when he's at his early years as the cape crusader.

Any who, I like this incarnation of Arkham Knight. Way better than the video game version, and it finally allows this character to be better utilised and have more of an impact in the DC Universe.

Oh. Probably should keep to myself that I even double-checked the book before posting that but whatever. They still thought about continuity to draw the purple gloves and it only slightly takes away the mystique of his whole role.
As much as I want to salvage my points, it is probably better that he explicitly caught on camera at some point to support Atrid's conclusion. I obviously was fine with it without the monitor; but even if it doesn't need to be, it does make it more reasonable to blame him.

But yeah, definitely hoping the DC Universe takes advantage of this great character somehow. Don't see how this could have the same reach, but would love it to be a "Heart of Ice" or Harley Quinn situation.

Court of Owls still took off, so maybe. That's had animated adaptions, a role on television and a Lego figure. Should probably read that one...

Court of Owls is a great story arc from the previous Batman run. I highly recommend it.

Here's hoping Arkham Knight interacts with other heroes or other villains as well...it could be interesting, like Wonder Woman or Lex Luthor.
