For all the dads out there, how do you take care of your collection with your kids?

Do you let your kids play with your collection? There will be a time your kids will break a thing or two. How do you deal with it?

Personally, I've bought some titans return stuff, so when the youglings want to play with TFs, these are the one they're allowed to play with.

They're not allowed to touch or play with my MPs.

My kid has his TF Prime, TR, Generations, PoTP toys to play with. He knows better then to play with mine without permission and I doubt he would want to because of their more complex transformations.

Have you ever caught them playing with your MPs?

My stepdaughter (I hate that term, but it’s accurate), has outgrown any interest in messing with my TFs, but now she acts like a guard dog if my young nephews and/or friends with young children visit. :lol

New dad here (13 months). I rent a climate controlled storage unit, and everything is going in there for a few years, until my son is at least somewhat responsible with his own things. Assuming he has an interest in Transformers by then (he sorta already does), I hope to include him in bringing it back home and unpacking it.

Not playing, just holding and swooshing around.

I explained to them that they "weren't toys" and that they should not take them without asking and my supervision.

My kids are old enough now that i would let them play with them if they wanted, but now they're only interested in electronics. They used to like playing with them, though...

My kids have their own TFs, and know that mine are mine. They respect the space, and are rewarded when I decide to replace a figure for a new version. My daughter is currently stalking my shelves in the anticipation of Siege Springer showing up.

Around 8. My oldest is 12 now and has mostly lost interest in TFs so no real worries anymore.

No interest from Moms’ input? I’m pretty sure there are a few on the boards! :D

This is a topic that I’ve thought about. Telling your kid that they can’t touch these toys seems almost cruel. I guess MPs aren’t really toys in the usual sense but still.

When the day comes for me, I think I’ll follow @G1Prowl on this. They will have plenty of their own to wreck. I sure did a number on my g1s when I was a kid and I loved them just the same.

He has his own Transformers and he can play with mine - some of the simpler MP's included - when I play with him, but not when I'm busy with other stuff.
If he breaks something I'll be annoyed but it's not like I never broke a toy, so I just tell him I'll see what I can do to fix it and that it's no biggie.

I let my daughter play with MP36 a few times supervised(Megs is her favourite). Ended up letting her have CW leader Megatron so we each have our own Megatron toy. She's not really into transforming. He mostly bosses around her Barbies and pew pews her hulk toy.

Most mainline stuff can hold up to the recommended 6 to 8 plus crowd. Even CHUG and if my blind dumb man hands don't mangle them on my first try then I think it's silly to just assume kids would break them outright.

I don't have kids but I have younger cousins and siblings, my cousins have kids, etc, and I just make sure they know I expect respect for my shit and no ones ever broken anything.

I personally love watching kids sit with my toys, their faces scrunched in contemplation, twisting and maneuvering a toy bit by bit with the instructions unfolded on their lap.

    Takes me back....

If we're not sharing the joy with the next generation of fans then what are we doing?

I agree that MP toys, 3P toys (DANGEROUS) and perhaps certain JP or vintage pieces should be better watched/kept up but a large majority of the stuff people seem to worry can't tolerate kid-play is literally made for kid play. You don't own a single CHUG toy that wasn't made to be a toy first.

CHUGs, Movie Toys, are toys that double as collection pieces. They are not collection pieces first they're toys first.

I'm also always walking by and transforming this one or reposing that one. It hardly ever stays the same more than a day, but I rarely change the whole thing at once. If cousin z or nephew x play with one or two I can just wipe off the fingerprints and refresh their positions.

    Circle of life.

What I do is probably the worst but easiest thing. I guess it could be the best. Idk.

My oldest son understands that if it's on my shelf, it doesn't get touched. His punishment if I catch him is I get to play with his toys. He's protective of them so he doesn't touch mine. I don't let my toys tease him though.

What I do is if I buy a figure, I buy my oldest son (5) the same character but from the "younger" line. For example. I picked up siege Soundwave, he wanted the 2015RID 1-step version.

Recently though I had to do something worse. I received my 3p legends smokescreen. My son decided I had to many smokescreens so he decided it was his. So I bought myself anothee one. Should be here Saturday.

I've taught my five year old son that my man cave is for looking only and if he really wants to see something to ask first. Some things I'll be like "sure, you can try to transform it". But others, like the rare/expensive stuff, he's not allowed to touch. So far he's been very respectful and adhered to this rule. To keep things fair he is also allowed to say the same to me with his toys.
