For my money, if they had any sense, they would invest in a sandbox/toolkit type of game, akin to Minecraft or Terraria (or Broforce, if you want to go more limited). If you can get players generating content for your game for free, you're onto a winner. With enough options, Transformers fans would be able to recreate characters and scenarios from across all continuities, and recreate various game genres.

So do we know for sure this is anything to actually be optimistic for or is it possible it becomes another Asia-Only title?
I'm hoping this wont be Freemium garbage but Transformers is a pretty niche title to be able to support itself without that addiction model.

Got another small update for you guys. An article went more in depth with the descriptions of the jobs that I posted above. A quote from the article reads:

The jobs up on Toronto are quite vast, ranging from Engineers to Artists, on the job application page for a "Character Artist" the job profile talks about AAA FPS games and creating visually stunning game characters for an unannounced AAA title. The bit just below that however says to the following: "If you enjoy the challenge of building a wide variety of stunning enemies, robots, weapons, and vehicles- apply now!"

What I'm gathering from this is that Certain Affinity is trying to make this game look (from a graphical standpoint) as great as it can possibly be. Although, what is more interesting is when they mention "enemies". The only thing the public received in terms of game modes is the incorporation of "PvP competitive Multiplayer". This would indicate that you would be fighting alongside and against other players. But with this description, it seems we may be getting AI-controlled characters. Could these be things that serve as PvE elements around Multiplayer maps? Or could this hint at a single-player mode? Guess we'll just have to find out.

Let's hope we get a trailer soon, I really want to see what Certain Affinity are cooking up for us. Also, let's hope that the game isn't filled with microtransactions, look at what happened with Battlefront 2.

 

The bigger issue there was the publisher, (cough cough) EA. Since then games have thankfully nuked themselves to get rid of predatory loot boxes thanks to the governments of several countries stepping in.

 

Leyou Technologies has released their 2018 Annual report. Details regarding the tentatively titled, “Transformers: Online” include:

New Product LineThe Group continued to create original IP or work with globally renowned IP to develop new products. The Group currently has several projects under development, including "Transformers Online", "Civilization Online" and other unannounced projects.

Meanwhile, the Group stepped up its efforts in product development to further enhance product quality. In January 2019, the development loan that the Group intended to provide to Certain Affinity, LLC ("Certain Affinity"), the developer of project "Transformers Online", were increased from US$15 million to US$33 million, for the development and production of richer content.

In addition to the continual premium updates and improvements to its live games, Leyou Technologies also keeps on investing in the development of new products, such as "Civilization Online" and "Transformers Online".

 

Glad to see they are getting more funding. Looks like we will finally be getting another quality TF title after all these years.

 

This is kind of amazing. The only Transformers game that I have played is FOC. After the cut off deal with activision, I was not able to play WFC. Looking forward to this...
