Some images of the characters. Man, they are still as uncanny and creepy as they were originally. ICV2-images They did get a really impressive cast of voice actors for this, but then again, so did the new Watership Down... That's no guarantee for greatness. Mark Hamill has been in some good stuff of late though... and by that, I mean Kulipari's second season, now SW8.
These photos look pretty damn good. Gorgeous sure is right. Saddens me that so many things are mostly done with CG these days, instead of practical effects and puppetry. Because WOW do these look good!
premieres August 30th. 'The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance' premiering on Netflix in August: See the exclusive images
Again, looks very damn good. Loving the puppetry, loving the Gelflings, and the Skeksis. Looks amazing.
It is good to know that they aren't altering the design. The Initial trailer had me a bit confuse about the shell plating on the Scientist, looking at the Scroll Keeper now I understand is war armor Another image been share by the Dark Crystal Podcast
Chastise me if you will, but I've never seen Dark Crystal before. I know it has this huge nerd cult following but I just never saw it growing up. This does look really interesting so I shall give it a whirl.
I look forward to this. I remember the first time I watched this. At first I only watched the Chamberlain's banishment scene at a hotel. Then years later I saw the whole movie when I thought I was watching the Labyrinth.
Yay, we have a premiere date! Damn that photo of the Scroll Keeper (skekOk, I believe is his name?) makes him look badass, especially with the Trial By Stone sword (HAAKSKEEKAAH!) The Scientist (skekTek) looks really good. It'll be fascinating to see the Skeksis back in their prime, before constant abuse of the Crystal's power to extend their lives takes a toll on them. The Scientist also doesn't seem to have all the implants on his face yet, other than his right eye (in the original movie you could see artificial bits and tubes on his face). What makes this kind of dark is that, at the time of the original movie, supposedly only Jen and Kira remain of their whole race. Makes me curious how they'll portray the Gelflings' struggle in this series without making it seem futile (though some material claims that small groups of Gelflings survived the purge on the other 2 of the 3 continents of Thra, but I don't know how reliable that is).
WTF? Is it just me or has there been absolutely no promotion for this project? If it wasn’t for a few internet threads then I’d never have even known it was happening. Honestly, it’s hard to get into. I haven’t even bothered to show it to any of the kids in my family. After they spent the whole movie laughing at The Neverending Story and rolling their eyes, I decided to skip showing them the Dark Crystal.
I'm guessing you will hear more closer to it coming out. Netflix doesn't usually start doing promotions till at least two months before with new series.
Fun fact: At 6 years old, The Dark Crystal was the very first movie I ever went to in a theater because it was also my "first date", haha. Went to it with a girl who lived across the street - our parents' made sure we were both dressed nicely, and one set of them drove us to the movie. Cute. As. F*ck. But I think the only reason I even remember it at all is because the movie scared the living shit out of me. I thought the Gelfling's were freaky looking - I always thought the main one (Jen) looked like Michael Jackson - that weasely banished Skeksis that was always saying "hmmmmm" terrified me, and that part where the Skeksis' are sucking life essence (or whatever) out of those little guys and their heads are caving in just completely fucked me up, haha. But I always loved Fizzgig. All that said, the second I was able to own it on VHS and then DVD years after that, I watch it probably every or year or two. Love it and have been really looking forward to this new series.
Two new images from Fandango Lat, Emperor without armor and the Scientist (likely inverse, as the Scientist has his Telescope thing on the right eye) and one of the three main Gelfling Spying on a balcony.
The Dark Crystal was the first movie I ever bought on DVD, and it had so many extras that blew me away; deleted scenes, original Skeksis language work prints, character profiles. The extras explained so much that had been mysteries to me about the movie for years. For example, the comic adaptation I mentioned earlier has production stills in the back section, a couple of which baffled me because they are not in the movie. Turns out they were from deleted scenes that I saw for the first time on the DVD. It's weird to think the movie was so close to being very different. The decision to replace the Skeksis language with English was made very late, late enough that adaptations and I believe some promotional materials still used Skeksis words. Oh, and my brother-in-law doesn't really like to talk about the movie because it scared the shit out of him when he was a kid, which is kinda funny because he's now a bad-ass Marine veteran
Speaking of which, I was so mad when Netflix took that off because I was just about to start watching it for the first time.
