There was no actual McGuffin in Bumblebee.

 

Transformers (2007) is more watchable to me.

I like the direction for the universe Bumblebee is going for and the actual film is alright, but the small scale, bland cinematography, and family film bits turn me off.

Definitely Bumblebee. While the 2007 movie is probably technically the best of the Bay movies, it's actually not my favorite. For me it falls after AOE and TLK.

 

I think of it this way...

TF1 came out before the MCU existed... we didn't know how good these movies could actually be, when done correctly. I personally loved TF1 when it was released. But Hollywood quickly shot past the Transformers franchise in terms of quality, and before too long, these movies became the laughingstock of the pop culture landscape. And now, looking back on TF1, it's readily obvious that it's not a good movie. At all.

Bumblebee, on the other hand, has the misfortune of following in the footsteps of AOE and TLK... two absolutely horrible movies. Regardless of how "good" it was, it carried an automatic disadvantage. And to be fair - Bumblebee is the best "movie" of the series. But it's hard for me to get attached to it like I did TF1, because of where the franchise (and Hollywood) was in 2017 versus 2018.

So, long story short... I "liked" TF1 better, if we're talking my interest when the movie came out. But looking back today, Bumblebee is the better movie.

 

2007 is cinematically superior. Even with all the goodwill from not doing something as bad as the past 4 films, Bumblebee only garnered 5 more % on Metacritic than 07—if the film was standalone, and it wasn't part of a franchise, I feel that it'd have been received worse. Both are good films that I enjoyed. However, I've watched 2007 like 6+ times and Bumblebee twice (second time was because my family wanted to see it).

 

Bumblebee is hands down a much better Transformers movie when compared to the 2007 Transformers film. While I can admit the 2007 film is visually amazing, pails in comparison to the Bumblebee movie. Also in the Bumblebee film, you can follow the action and the humor is less awkward.

I’m a big fan of Bumblebee, but Transformers (2007) holds a special place for me, and not just due to nostalgia. It’s a Spielbergian film filtered through Michael Bay and it works. It’s an awesome movie.

 

I actually have more nostalgia for the run up to the '07 movie. The killer advertisement campaign and general fan buzz, the movie itself holds up very poorly, something that I doubt will affect Bumblebee which succesfuly captured a timeless appeal. I don't enjoy watching the first Bay movie, I have fun with some scenes but the rest is a dreary slog. Bumblebee is like a walk on a good August evening it's perfect for what it is in the here and now and extremely enjoyable.

 

Not sure, actually. I think both are enjoyable enough for what they are, but I don't think the 2007 film is as good as people introduced to TFs by it think it is, nor did I think Bumblebee is as great as most people in the fandom think it is. I wouldn't pick either as my least favorite TF movie, but I also wouldn't pick either one of them as my favorite.

I will say that I enjoy the 2007 film for capturing the awe of live action Transformers on screen for the first time, and I enjoy Bumblebee as a "Girl and her car" story, but neither film is close to my ideal TF film. So it really depends on what I'm in the mood for. If I'm looking for an Iron Giant-style family film, Bumblebee would be my pick. If I'm looking for an "Arrival to Earth" film, then 2007.

 

Bumble Bee. Bee didn't lubricate on anyone, the story was more coherent and the most of the robots looked like their supposed to instead of random bits of metal and vehicle parts mashed together.

 

Bumblebee. 1000 times over. Much tougher story. MUCH more likeable (and useful) dumb stubbie and parents. You can actually tell what was going on during the fights.

Bay is a good director, when he has restraint. 13 Hours is amazing. We needed THAT Bay to introduce us to the Transformers. Travis Knight basically was that version of Michael Bay.

On a related note, it would be great to have the autobots' personality and characterization from the 2007 movie and the decepticons' personality and characterization from the bumblebee movie, mash them together to form one awesome movie.

 

Bumblebee gets my vote. It was a nice movie, but not a great one. I was still annoyed at the bay aesthetics and the my-alien-buddy-and-me-plot has been done one too many times. It also lacked the strong emotional impact of E.T and Iron Giant. But it was a nice movie, a good looking movie, a mellow movie. Charlie was neither overpowered heroine, nor damsel-in-distress. Just an ordinary person, and I'm glad I took my daughter and boyfriend to see it.

The first live action TF film excited me...until I sat down to watch it and ended up being confused and annoyed throughout. Who-is-that? And Wtf-am-I-looking-at? And This-Sam-kid-is-obnoxious, were constantly running through my mind. Those same thoughts ran through my mind for the second and third films. Mikaela was the only compassionate and competent human being and I wanted to see her take the role of brave mechanic and helper.

The Bay films sucked ass and are ass-ugly. But it did bring a few cool characters to the franchise. I am fond of Mikaela, Barricade, Steelbane and Cog Man, (from what I've seen in clips. That guy is hilarious!)The rest of those confusing cgi abominations can go blow. Well, Ravage was a cool looking beastie.

The second one was seen because my boyfriend wanted to go see it.

The third one was only because of movie night at my aunt and uncle's house in which I feigned falling asleep m to spare myself from watching anymore.

 

Bumblebee. Aside from the obvious like an actual good story, better characterization, comprehensible designs of the Transformers, the visual look of the film I much prefer over Bay since it doesn't look like it was perpetually filmed at sunrise/sunset and everyone is sweaty/grimy.

I think the opening scene with Blackout destroying the army base is one of the better scenes and comparable to the Autbot Arrival scene since it treats the Transformers with some gravitas. It's one of the few times the Decepticons in the Bay films are presented as legit unstoppable threats to humans.

 

2007 movie, more bots, more threatening Decepticons, I liked the sound track better.

Bumblebee Movie was good too, but When Studio Series figures came out, I rushed like mad to collect all the first movie bots. Didn't have the slightest interest in the newer characters. Well I would like Devastator maybe, depending on how well they do last few guys we havn't seen yet.

Bumblebee himself was pretty good in the new movie, but all the other characters just seemed like fillers and I had no reason to care about any of them (humans and bots alike).

 

The 2007 movie is still very fun overall, but Bumblebee has some extra component to it that I feel makes it more worthwhile. I know for certain that it's not the designs because I honestly don't like it when they try to be more like G1 instead of doing something new, so I can't really pinpoint what it is.

 

In terms of which I can watch multiple sittings. The 07' film never gets old. Well, the action never gets old.
Bumblebee features more Transformers stuff, is more funny, and the characters aren't obnoxious.
Mhm... 07' I loved the buildup.
