FT will be bot modes, until a combined mode can be made. It will be a tough battle to take down Zeta as the combiner king.

Ok thank you for the info. I have not been following this thread that much so I appreciate the correction. I still don’t like so much of the combiner being add-on parts but again I understand why they chose to go that route.

I stopped buying Fans Toys stuff because I had QC issues on every figure including all the Dinobots. I did receive replacement parts but it’s still frustrating and makes me nervous about their quality going forward.

Takara does not seem interested in doing combiners so I’ll keep an eye on the Fans Toys sets reviews. Hopefully they turn out great.

So far I've only had issue with Scoria's feet, the chrome paint chipping off :(

I'm invested in Zeta, but also interested in FT's take for the moment on these fly-boys

Cause this isn't just about toon accuracy. It doesn't represent either the cartoon or the real world vehicle. It's like they ignor what a real world version of this would look like, and how they looked in the toon, in favor of some flashy piece for a shelf. I don't understand why they would go this direction. It makes so little sense. I think this is best expressed with their paint on Warpath. The dude is a tank named Warpath and they made him shinny chrome and pearlescent. If that isn't a misinterpretation of a character I don't know what is. I hope they can correct this or release non metallic versions down the line to better represent how the real world vehicles look.

I didn't think I would but I'm really digg'n the metallic. I may end up eating crow on this once it is in hand but the screen shots look very promising. I have the ZETA superion and am really not happy with it. It is very toy'ish (to be clear, I DON"T mean "toy aesthetic". I mean it looks and feels like a toy) and while I understand that the thin plastic may be a weight reduction decision, it makes it feel a bit cheap and KO'ish. Not that I've had any issues. The whole set is pretty solid, just "feels" cheap. The thing that I've always liked about FT is their designs look much more "scale model" and to me "THAT is what makes MP. It is what did it for Takara back in the Hasui era (golden age of MP as far as I'm concerned) and I feel the metallic may be just the thing it needs to fully take it out of that "toy'ish/ toon'ish" realm and bring it to the realm of "collectible" with a premium finish.

Looks good to me. Watching this closely before I decide to go for this or Zeta Kronos

This is my biggest issue with this reveal. I'm hoping it's like most FT product shots, where they no longer match the final deco. Roadking had lighter gray on multiple points that was corrected for the final release, hope that's the case here too with Skydive's face, as the orange faces for him and Slingshot are, I think, important details to get right.

Moving away from the face, it's good that the sliders on the forearms of the original prototype are no longer visible. Was hoping there would be something to cover up those holes on the shins, though. I imagine that's where Superion's feet plug in, but it would have been nice if something could have been done to hide it in bot mode. Oh well, that bit isn't as important to me as getting the colors right.

So are we close to seeing full reviews of FT vs Zeta side by side? Are they all out now?

Lots of helmets look like Oompa Loompas to me.

No where close. None have been released to date. Maverick (Silverbolt) is expected in a few months. Maybe a second character before the end of the year.

Not really a point in having a side by side imo ... the two are on totally different spectrums. Maybe combined mode only.

That's my problem with ToyWorld/Zeta. Their stuff feels like overpriced CHUG to me. I recently purchased TOyworld BII (Bumblebee) and right out of the box, he was floppy and CHUGgish. I've seen plenty of reports of similar failings on ZETA's Bruticus, and TW Constructor, both of which I have passed on because of. FT's Motormaster really reminds me of the Iron Dibots, which are my favorite figures. So fingers crossed that these turn out.:)

I wouldn’t say most. Some, definitely. I personally collect 3rd party to fill the holes in the cast that TT have yet to/likely never will create. I love the toon aesthetic and wish more companies would skew closer to it. Also, I may be wrong but I suspect I am in the mostly silent majority on the subject. If the majority didn’t want toon accuracy then TT would have backed off of it after Inferno and Grapple, but instead they have doubled down. If FansToys wants me to invest in their Aerialbots, they need to be coloured to match the rest of my collection, which thanks to TT’s “+” figures is more toon-like than ever! Some shiny metallic paint is acceptable, but all over just looks tacky and gaudy. FT Motormaster seems fine so I’m hoping these recent prototype images are simply poorly balanced or over saturated or something. I for one have no interest in any blinged-out “X” versions.

Of course the definitely not-at-all silent minority will likely take me to task for daring to voice such thoughts. Gentlemen, start your hate-engines!

Based on the scale of Silverbolt - basically Zeta torso sized - the individual Aerialbot limbs look like they'll be taller than MP OP as well.

Is that true? These are definitely the best looking robot mode Aerialbots but that's pretty big.

Regarding the metallic: 1) the colors looks like they have been tweaked in a photo editor or 2) they are using the same camera filter they did for Phoenix X (which wasn't nearly as metallic in the final production version). I think we can expect something different when these finally see release. As long as there aren't drastic, G2-style changes from what has been shown here, I'll be OK with what I get.

I like the zeta one much better in plane mode, but that\'s probably a toon style thing. Bot mode is fine. Perfect dumpy s2 toon aesthetic. Don\'t like the limbs being quite so close in scale to SB, toon scale chart be damned.

My statement has nothing to do with CHUG per say. It is about if a SKU feels like a collectible or a toy. I have both the Toyworld Devastator and the Zeta Bruticus. They both feel like high end collectibles. ZETA superion does not. I have absolutely no issue with Toyworld devastator/constructicons. They feel like good materials, are painted well, have fantastic proportions all around, great alt modes, "scale model" level details and most of them have that MP moment of engineering that makes them MP to me. Zeta Bruticus is ok and is the best over all (I want to stress OVER ALL before the UT fans kick in here) set of combaticons out to date. The combine mode is pretty great with few flaws (vortex rotors don't fold up enough and should have been like SS blackout and the connection with Swindle is pretty bad), the alt modes are fantastic almost across the board (Onslaught is the only made up vehicle. The rest are based on real vehicles), they have that "scale model" level of detail that MP needs, the materials feel good and hefty. The only drawback is the bot models are pretty average and not as well proportioned as UT and have too much kibble. Pull a few pins and pop off the kibble and they are pretty decent. Zeta's Superion just feels too light and thin. The hardware sometimes feels like it's going to fall apart. The paint apps are pretty good but the tampos with the "zeta" branding take away that "scale model" aesthetic that is part what I see as defining MP (at least Hasui era). The bots are pretty average and a bit too chunkey (kibble is part of the Arealbots so I don't consider that). The combine mode is good enough and pretty solid save the jet kibble likes to come untabbed but somewhere along the line, it looses that "scale model" look and that collectible feel and just looks like a toy... I am very hopeful for FT to take a stab at the Arealbots but we shall see. FT Motormaster is pretty fantastic but we still have no sense of how well or how bad FT will do with an actual combiner.
