Recently, there have been rumblings that Shang-Chi will find a way to incorporate The Mandarin (the real one) and the Ten Rings. Asked if there are plans in place for either of those to be touched on in the MCU moving forward after the Iron Man franchise failed to really delve into it, all Kevin Feige would say is "Yes." Take that as you will, but it sounds like fans of the villain will finally be happy.

So Shang-Chi could face off with the Mandarin, who could be his father.

Well, better that this villain be paired with a hero of his own nationality, and who is blood. It worked for N'Jadaka and Loki.

 

OK! see, that's actually interesting. I could totally get into the character if there's interesting lore like that.

Iron Man 3 was awesome & comics Mandarin is a stupid character. The angle they chose was a brilliant subversion & Ben Kingsley's performance is excellent.

 

I agree Iron Man 3 is an awesome movie and is getting a lot of unnecessary hate, but we can't deny they botched one of Iron Man's most popular and most hyped villains at the time.

 

Ben Kingsley should return in this as Trevor begging for mercy. Not sure if he should survive or not.

I almost said he should be the real Mandarin, but I'm guessing this will be Chinese the whole way.

 

I agree Iron Man 3 gets unnecessary hate and Kingsley's performance as "the fake" was fine, but piss off with the whole "Mandarin is a stupid character in the comics" bullshit. Seriously, the guy is up there with Doom, Red Skull and Magneto as far as global threats and world masterminds are concerned. There's a reason Mandarin is one of Iron Man's most notable villains.

In any case this sounds awesome. Just a shame Iron Man can't be in this too.

 

I believe that the rumor that started this whole “the Mandarin is in this film” also stated that War Machine could potentially show up, as the “Iron Man stand-in”.

 

The Mandarin is absolutely one of Iron Man's most notable villains. For a long time, arguably THE most notable Iron Man villain.

But at the same time, he was a racial caricature of the style that was popular during WW2, was already being phased out by the '60s when Mandarin was created, and would only make people uncomfortable today. He had to be changed up for modern audiences.

Oh, I won't argue that his original design is a horrible and racist caricature. That said he can be done without making him a "Ming The Merciless" knock off. The modern comics do it rather well.

And, again, I don't mind what they did in Iron Man 3, but that doesn't exclude them from ever utilizing the real Mandarin (tweaked more towards his modern comics appearances).

 

We also just spent ELEVEN YEARS building up to Thanos and his powerful collection of alien jewelry; if MCU brings in Mandarin with his ten rings now it'll just feel like badly recycling the Infinity Saga.

if they're gonna use a "real" Mandarin he's gonna need a LOT of tweaks.

 

Now the Mandarin makes this interesting. REALLY interesting.

 

Paladin brings up an interesting point, they could potentially be ripping off the infinity saga if they use his ten rings. I wonder how they'll go about this. I just hope they give him the same treatment they gave their other characters, faithful but updated.
