Chris Rock is teaming with Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures for a fresh reimagining on the next Saw movie. The comedy multi-hyphenate has written a story which is being adapted by Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg, and Rock will also executive produce. Lionsgate has dated the film for an Oct. 23, 2020 release. Chris Rock Is Rebooting The ‘Saw’ Franchise – Deadline
"I only know Jordan Peele as a comedian, can he do horror well?" - everyone in the world before 'Get Out' I'm sure it'll play out the same way - lots of raised eyebrows until the movie is actually released and we all find out. Just not sure why he even wants to reboot a franchise like Saw considering it was still going as recently as a year or so ago.
Chris Rocks' made three "Madagascar" movies & two "Grown-Ups." I think he's tortured enough people already.
Seems to be I am still mixed on it I like the new Halloween but Jordan Peele is a bit overrated. I would prefer being stuck in a saw trap over watching those movies. I kinda agree I liked them at first but the more they put out I started to lose interest. I feel jigsaw had too many copycats made him seem else special imo.
This one is a bit odd. While you can say the same thing for Jordan Peele and Danny McBride, their comedic movies and shows had a very cinematic style (especially in Peele’s case since Key and Peele put a lot of effort into the cinematography for each sketch). Chris Rock’s movies generally aren’t like that. Saw is such a weird choice too. The last one was less than two years ago, and it made about as much money as the other Saw movies did at the box office.
Sam L Jackson will be in the movie You’ll See Samuel L. Jackson in ‘Saw’ Samuel L. Jackson will star alongside Rock himself and Max Minghella and Marisol Nichols. Lionsgate has confirmed that Rock will be playing a police detective investigating a series of brutal murders while Jackson will play Rock’s father. Minghella will portray Rock’s partner and Nichols his boss
So who will be playing Jigsaw? Jackson or Rock? The answer is yes. They heard Mark Hamill's awesome performance playing an evil talking doll, so now they both want to do it. So, they'll be fighting over the microphone on who's turn it is to play the evil talking doll.
Robin Williams proved it. Comedy is hard work - people underrate it, but well-done comedy is a craft that can be carried over to other forms of writing that draws on emotions.
I’m a little surprised they got Samuel L. Jackson for this. Yes, he tends to show up in almost every big franchise, but you don’t normally see an actor like him sign on for a horror reboot. They normally just get newcomers for that and maybe one or two franchise veterans.
Trailer for the movie is out it is being called Spiral but is still a Saw movie just a different name. The trailer didn't do much for me even by Saw standards. Also not really a reboot just another story in the Saw universe it was thought to be a reboot at first
Interesting. Looks like it takes place in (at least) two points in time -- Chris' scenes are in the past, with Sam's being in the present.
Yeeeeah I just don't think I'd be able to take Chris Rock seriously as a dramatic grizzled cop after, well, his entire career history. Some comedians can make that jump, but I'm not convinced he's one of them. Then again, this is just a 93rd iteration of Saw-something, so I guess there's no need to have any high expectations to begin with. I'll see how he does in the new season of Fargo and go from there.
