I had to come into this thread to see if this was the case. Most people are saying it's slow and boring, which hasn't enticed me to read it.

    IDW's new drinking game!

    1. Take a drink if something happens other then empty dialogue.

    2. Die of thirst.

Well, it says that in relation to the news that issues #3 and #4 have sold out. In my opinion, succes should be measured by sales. So let's take a look at the sales numbers :)

#1: 21,757 + 1,104 copies (not bad at all, considering the previous series hovered around 5.000 copies. The "+" indicates reprint numbers)
#2: 12,780 + 867 (that's... a pretty big drop. Still much better sales numbers compared to the last issues of the previous iteration though)
Comichron: March 2019 Comic Book Sales to Comics Shops
    #3: 11,358 copies
Comichron: April 2019 Comic Book Sales to Comics Shops

The reported orders are reduced by 10% in the above numbers due to returnability. So the actual amount of sold issues could be higher. Or lower...
In the coming months it will be interesting to see how well sales hold up. So far the relaunch seems to have worked though.

World building is always appreciated, but world building without action gets old quickly. This series better give us some action soon.

I also prefer the sales figures to determine success.

I've been watching the sales numbers myself. Massive sales drops from a #1 issue isn't that unusual actually. Most #1's have large sales numbers, and #2's almost always suffer a significant drop. This is almost a 50% drop, so it's definitely eye-catching. But like you said, we'll need to see how the sales hold up over the coming months. The drop from #2 to #3 might be indicative of reception (to a small degree). However, these sales figures are leagues better than what the last series enjoyed near the end of its run (which was in the 5K area).

So doubling the sales comparatively can be considered a success no matter how you look at it.

That said, I've TRIED reading the new book myself and it's nerve-rackingly slow-paced and honestly quite boring. I've decided to take a break from it until the first arc is complete and check back in around the trade time.

I assume they're trying for a slow burn.
Spinning up realistic triggers for a planetwide epoch spanning war is probably a lot harder than abstracting out the exact events. Especially when you have complex characters capable of rational thought.

To be fair, im amazed that this has doubled the numbers of the old books. Less expensive creators and more sales means that this has worked for them, at least, if not for many of this group...

I hate to say it, but this book is dragging. Cyclonus showing up in the last issue was cool, but nothing came from it. Something has got to happen soon.

Speaking purely for myself, the overall quality of the series so far has halved the number of copies I buy.

I'm a physical copy buyer, and a bit of a variant fiend. During the previous run of IDW "Transformers" comics I would typically buy at least one of the two regular covers and more often than not I would pay the premium for the Retailer Incentive cover from my local comic shop.

Sometimes I would buy one of every cover an issue offered, purely out of my enthusiasm for the world and the artists contributing to the world.

This series has not motivated me to buy any more than one copy of each issue, with the notable exception of issue one (I have the Casey Coller cover as well as the Freddie Williams III cover.)

At this point I'm really just buying my one copy of each issue out of FOMO, feeling that things could drastically improve in an upcoming issue and I don't want to be the bunny who stopped collecting one or two issues before the story blew up in a big, bad way.

I was a bit disappointed that the sales numbers for issue 4 aren't published yet, since the title ships twice per month. I'm really curious to see how sales will progress, seeing the reactions here. Interesting times :)

The artist just slavishly drawing the toys, peg holes and all is ridiculous. Unless it is a major plot point later like how Battlemasters attach to them as if this was powerlinking... it is dumb. They might as well have included screws too! :D
Also, Megs, Negentropy... that\'s not a word. Just FYKI. ;)

The adverts always say that. It's like the 5-star ratings from reviewers nobody ever heard of on the cover of bad of DVDs. Next they will print "from the fabled writer of whatever that fantasy novel nobody heard about was" on the cover.

    Wait, where???

I guess it is too much to expect for a series to have something HAPPEN in 4 months.
I guess am cursed with being too old to be standing at the newpaper vendor every 2 months (here in Hungary, Semic released 2 issues every 2 months) waiting for the latest Marvel G1 issue, hungrily devouring every page and then re-reading it and previous issues religiously for the next 2 months? I cannot see anyone being as enthralled by this as I was then. I can see people being interested in MTMTE, Not-RID, even Costa's stuff, because things actually happened in those issues whether I liked them or not.
Here it is blatantly obvious the writer has not a clue that comics are not the same medium as his novels where you read several chapters in a day while here one issue barely feels it would make an entertaining chapter in a book.

Did the writer paraphrase dialogue from AoE for Optimus?
