Is MP Blackarachnia mis-transformed?

 

I dont understand the mistransformation issues particularly when they have two examples on display. Why wouldn't you have one preprepared well before the show even if it comes down to having one glued together properly transformed for display.

 

Honestly, I have no explanation for this. It's mind-blowing that such a thing would happen. It is literally the only thing that makes me anything than absolute certain it is mistransformed. This one single question brings me to 80% sure it's mistransformed, rather than 100%.

There are so many ways to ensure this sort of thing doesn't happen. It really is strange. But more strange than takara literally just leaving the robot arms unpegged floating underneath, and the hourglass sitting just below where it should be? If I try to balance the absurdity of both of these ideas, I'm more willing to accept they somehow left the transformation in the hands of the wrong person than they couldn't find a way to peg the arms underneath.

Even if you want to believe the intentionally left the arms unpegged so the spider could be held up because the spider legs are too weak, there is a stand for exactly that purpose! Peg in the arms, put the spider mode on the stand and it doesn't need to support itself.

It is just all too baffling. No matter the outcome, I am baffled.

 

I do think she's mistransformed. I don't think she's mistransformed by a lot, though. I've looked at her from every angle we have so far, and simply don't see a lot that can be done. (Via correct transformation, or via different engineering/a different design. They did what they could with the space they had imo.)

Things I suspect will be improved in official pics:

• Her bot mode knees will probably be collapsed inwards a bit more, and maybe folded back more. More cohesively flush with the body, but still probably visible.
• Her bot mode arms may tab in better. But I think people who expect them to be hidden are in for disappointment. That's where her beast mode legs' ball joints are located. They are going to be visible. And her elbows don't appear to have enough joint rotation to be more compactly stored underneath her beast mode body. They're going to be visible imo. Even if slightly more well aligned with the body.
• The thing I'm most confident of: the top of her beast mode, with that large visible double hinge, will collapse back more, and be flatter. And the tail end of her back will also be much more flush and flat.
• Her beast mode knees won't be as bent, so she'll stand up "taller" for lack of a better word, and that will allow her back end to drop more, extending her and making her "longer" looking, and not as "squished."

So she will look more proportionate, more flush, and a little "neater." But I still strongly suspect there's not much more that can be done to hide a lot of that bot mode kibble.

That said... just like Bumblebee (and just like Bumblebee I hope someone makes a "positive discussion" thread, as unfortunate as it is that that's needed,) I also think she will look much better in-hand when displayed with other MPs, because just like Bee, we are looking at an extremely tiny mode zoomed up super close in a way totally unnatural to how she'll look when displayed, or even in our hands with our own two eyes. Cameras do that.

Whether that means she looks good or bad to any individual viewer or collector is up to them of course. But almost without question she will look better than this at least in-hand and in official pics. But I don't think most of that kibble is going anywhere personally. We'll see soon enough! Would love to be wrong, but not bothered if not. She's a gorgeous piece imo! Like all the BW MPs and MPs in general, in my eyes.

You have to be joking...every single entry in the BW line has been amazing! Not perfect but incredible nonetheless. Their target demographic are the people who grew up watching the show, and being one of those people I am very satisfied with the line. I'm curious, what has you hating the MPs so much?

 

not disputing the robot modes looking spot on or the target audience and the recent bw megatron looks good to me , it's just the alt mode for this and then the look of bumblebee v2 are both questionable engineering ( i'm not even going to start on the new optimus   )

they are sacrificing shit so it looks good from one or 2 angles from the cartoon models

 

So 3 figures with questionable engineering means Takara’s engineers are failures?

Well they did it before...MP-45 Bumblebee was revealed at a show slightly mistransformed and later stock images showed his correct robot mode to be less terrible. Maybe it's the same with Blackarachnia's Beast mode?

Why is this happening...well I have two theories either TT are terrible at PR or they are doing it on purpose...sounds crazy right!?! But maybe they know the beast mode doesn't look that great and to lower our expectations are showing it to us in such a mess that when we see correct beast mode we'll be so received its bot that bad we'll forgive any shortcomings? It could be argued if that was their tactic it sorta worked with Bumblebee

  Great to know that the legs can actually hold the weight of the spider mode.

 

Oh hey, the front was slightly mistransformed.

Considering how much mass needs to hide away for beast mode, she looks pretty darn good.

 

Oh yeah looking awesome and sexy.   Her spider mode's a little better but still has some kibble. Her robot mode's still gorgeous as ever though.

I’m...actually considering it now. She looks better. Not perfect, but better. The arms are still visible, but are better hidden. The butt is more cohesive and held together, and the front isn’t so squished. If I had any other BW MPs I’d pick her up for sure.

 

Basically what I expected. Was severely mistransformed. Beast legs are in the appropriate spot. Hourglass is the appropriate spot. Robot parts are noticeable, but far more flush.

Not perfect, but definitely acceptable. I'm happy.

 

Beast mode comparison, the one on display was definitely mistransformed in the already speculated areas.

 

Colour me very much relieved.

Plus it's exactly how I hoped it would be, tidier/tighter abdomen, robot arms better tucked underneath and spider legs actually connected to the thorax...it aint 'prefect', there's still a little too much of the robot mode visible, the abdomen is still an odd shape and overall the body seems a little squat..but I'd say
she's only a little more compromised in beast mode than the rest of the BWMPs...and as there's less space to hide stuff I'm willing to give her a pass. Faith in the BWMP design team shaken but not broken.

Now TT clean your act up and stop trying to give us all heart attacks with your shoddy product reveals!!
