In G1 MTMTE, there wouldn't have been any Autobots if Starscream ignored Megatron when they were on top of the volcano when Starscream started firing. Megatron notified Starscream to stop shooting and save his energy, since they were in stasis for 4 million years. Before leaving, Starscream decided to fire a few last shots to the Volcano, knocking Optimus under the beam, thus reactivating the rest of the Autobots.

Of course, the Decepticons would have left Earth right away. The immediately started work on their ship. They'd hit a few spots to get the energy but then they'd leave. In a way, good for Earth. Instead the Autobots wrecked their plans and they stayed and caused more havoc on our world.

 

Something else would have eventually awaken them, the same way a random act woke the Decepticons.

 

What woke the Decepticons was the volcano erupting

 

It is possible that now that the computer was back online, that it would either restart systems that could drag the Autobots into the beam or the device with the beam would move side to side until it got an Autobot.

 

You forget
There were autobots still on Cybertron, and in “other parts of the Galaxy”

......and return to Cybertron.

And within a short time, wipe out the rest of the , and soon after that begin conquering the universe

With their likely first stop.......Earth, since they know for certain it’s full of energy

In a way, Not good for Earth.

It’s a good thing Autobots were around to wreck their plans

Better question:

Why didn't Megatron and Co destroy the Autobot's while they were still in stasis, to ensure they never woke up again?

Or, alternatively, just destroy the device that awakened them so it couldn't be used on the Autobots?

Surely it would cross Meg's processor that if a random 'jolt' ultimately caused them to wake up, it could happen again with the Autobots?

And btw That the volcano did have activity again later in season 1

And Volcanoes do tend to a errupt or have some activity from time to time, in fact I do recall some examples from the 80s
