Here are some simple parts for the DNA Designs upgrade kit for Combiner Wars/Unite Warriors Devastator to fix the arms flopping around at the original shoulder joints. These parts clip to the figures and then plug into a 6mm hole in each DNA shoulder piece to hold the parts together. Designed in Tinkercad and 3D printed. OK, here are the files: See first post Let me know how well they work and if anything needs to be improved!
Nice. Sadly I have the X2 kit but I've noticed that the DNA kit is back in stock at BBTS so I'm thinking of picking it up. If I do, I'll give these a try for sure.
Fantastic. Thank You you. I'm gettimg mine from a friend on Thursday. I'll let you know what I think.
Will be printing today or tomorrow and will let you know if it's another success. We have a cheapo Makerbot at work, so if it turns out well here, any print should work!
I was just trying to pose my UW Devastator this past weekend and getting frustrated because even though I have the DNA kit, the arms still fall victim to the mushroom peg arms and fall under its own weight. I don't have a 3D printer but if this makes it to shapeways, i'm definitely interested!
Well, apparently I don't have the DNA kit, I have the good kit with the G1-looking Mixmaster cab front. So these don't fit my shoulder extensions anyway. Oh well. (There is no world in which I will ever be able to keep track of what these unlicensed companies make or what they are called. I should have realized there would be 73 Devastator add-on kits just like there are 73 fake Devastators.)
Got mine today from my friend. They work great. Thanks a ton. Only minor issue I had was having to expand the hole on the Scavenger piece. Simple pieces but perfect. Thanks You!!
Awesome, thanks for the report! Glad they work well! When you say you had to expand the hole on the Scavenger piece, do you mean the peg was too big and you had to expand the hole on the DNA shoulder part? Or are you talking about the hole on the smaller Bonecrusher piece? I'm just wanting to make sure I work out any kinks on these before I put them on Shapeways.
Woops. I meant Bonecrusher. The hole on that piece was just a smidge too small. I just used a drill to widen it a bit. I printed two sets and both are the same.
Cool, thanks for the feedback. I will probably leave it as-is, since fixing a too-small hole is easier than fixing a too-large hole.
Ordered the DNA kit from BBTS and I "collected" this kit on Thingiverse. I'll probably print them sometime this weekend though I guess there's no reason to hurry since BBTS takes for-freakin'-ever to ship things.
Any chance of an altered design to work with the other kits out there, or was this more a "I was fixing my own issue, may as well share with others" kinda deal?
More of the latter, I'd be down to design parts for the other kits but don't have access to them. Maybe I'll try to come up with a different design where all the connection points attach to the figures themselves, instead of the upgrade parts, to try and make something that could work for any kit. It would be a more involved design, but I think it can be done.
These parts are now available on Shapeways: Devastator DNA Designs arm locks by robots78 on Shapeways The prices are higher than I'd like, but that's mostly due to Shapeways. I've only added a $2 markup for myself. I'm not sure what other designers set for a markup, but that seemed reasonable to me. The default material is black ($17), but I also have white available for a cheaper option ($12). I also revised the design slightly by making the peg on the Scavenger part longer to match the Bonecrusher part. The download on Thingiverse has been updated with the new design.
