Finally got around to painting this thing. Done with 1 leg and working on the second. Just saw the bot modes yesterday when I took them apart, not a fan of Swindle and Brawl so far. Decided to paint the feet same color as the legs. Swindles got a whole bunch of parts. Couldn't take apart some of them.
Almost done with the legs. What clear coat do you guys use for painting? The clear I use made them a little darker than what I had intended. (Left - no clear)
Was finally able to unpack my AB and continue working on this. Just need to weather Vortex then on to Blastoff.
Can't wait to see this done, huge improvement so far. Eventually I'm planning to do mine. What paint did you use for swindle? Looks fantastic! Fyi I never clear coat, makes it to difficult to go back and fix or change things. I do thin coats and allow long cure times before I transform them, never had much issue with chipping.
Thanks! I think it was Tamiya dessert yellow. I use Tamiya acrylics coz their the cheapest I can find and seem to work well. I do several thin coats too but guess kinda get excited to transform them. What type doof paint you use?
Mostly Testors model masters, but I use their regular acrylics too. I've been experimenting lately with some of that cheapo paint from walmart as well. I've been wanting to try Tamiya for awhile, but nowhere near me sells it and when I need paint I can't wait a week to ship it lol. That's how I ended up trying the cheap walmart stuff. I have to drive 40 minutes to get testors.
Gotcha. Will have to try testors too. I see those in Hobbytown near me. I tried using those Walmart paints the 50c stuff, those dont seem to stick to plastic. I think they only work on porous surfaces.
The ones I got were in the craft section. To be honest they weren't terrible. I did a Siege Starscream with them and it turned out okay. I used their gun metal gray(admittedly a hard color to screw up) light coats built over a dark wash. And a metallic flake red over testors silver (drybrush). For the blue I went back to my testors though. I was just out of gray in my good paint. I wouldn't have any qualms using that gray again but the red wasn't great.
Thats interesting. I bought some of those and didnt have much luck on figures but they work well on my cosplay builds. Thanks again!
Done with Blastoff. Even though I tried to mute his colors, he still seems to be the most colorful one of the bunch. Just need to work on Onslaught. Has anyone tried to paint him gray and go for a G1 look? I want to try it but wanted to see if there are some ref pics. Couldnt find any on Google.
No, I actually did mean Onslaught. I know he's blue but most of Bruticus' body is grey in the cartoons. Wanted to know if someone has already done a repaint like that. Not sure how I'm gonna make it work.
Man, your pain apps and weathering are incredible. They look like they belong in a modeling competition.
Took a break from painting the torso and attempted to sculpt a new faceplate. Pretty happy with what I got so far. Just need to sharpen the lines.
I'd say go for a more of a bluish gray. Probably gunmetal gray if you ask me. Of course, it's your project and you can do whatever you want with it. The end result will still be as beautiful as the rest of this!
Thanks! I am going for bluish grey and making some parts of him like grey a military grey instead of green. Ill make some of the Bruticus parts gun metal grey. Hopefully it translates well once Im done.
