This looks quite faithful to the franchise and should be something fun as i'm a Ryan Reynolds fan, it could be like Pokemon's answer to Roger Rabbit.

Think they mentioned that they tried to film most of the film on location as much as possible.

Just got out. The plot doesn’t get good until the third act of the film, and it’s pretty rushed and predictable up until that point. The main highlight of the film is the Pokemon, but there aren’t many in the film at all. We’ve seen all but one in the trailers.

TBH, you've seen most of the entire movie from trailers. Not quite as bad as, say, Jurassic World 2 was but there weren't many surprises.

The movie was alright. The big appeal was definitely seeing the Pokemon in a live action style and it did deliver on that front... but if the movie was a cartoon rather than live action it would be almost completely unnoteworthy. I enjoyed it. I'll watch it again and probably buy the Blu-ray when it comes out.

The actress playing the journalist with a Psyduck was so bad I honestly couldn't tell whether her dialogue was supposed to be taken seriously or as a joke.

And that Pokemon was an Ultra Rare card in the Detecive Pikachu trading card set, being a given a position next to Mewtwo, Charizard and Greninja so we knew it would have a big role to play.

Oh, something SUPER important I realized but isn’t played up much in the movie, is that
this movie is a continuation of the first. Or at least, some form of those events happened. Clifford’s company didn’t create Mewtwo, the simply captured him, and they even state in the movie that he was originally created 20 years ago from Mew, which was when The First Movie came out. That explains a lot of things.

Was the reference to Mewtwo being made from Mew's fossil intended to unambiguously put it in the anime canon or was it just the next in a long history of Mewtwo's origin from the games being forgotten?

I would've loved it if I was 7 to 12 years old. But that story sucked ass, it kept going downhill minute after minute.

I still plan to see it. For me though, it'll be hard to top the "Pokemon: Origins" anime miniseries, which is my personal gold standard.

Just got back from seeing it, it was alright. I wouldn't say the curse of video game movies sucking is broken completely, but this movie's a starting point.

Oh, really? I didn't really like Origins on the rewatch... I know it was touted as following the games more closely and I suppose it did in comparison to some other adaptations, but it felt so half-assed about it. Like, the Mega Stones and Charizard X were so weirdly out of place, as was the battle with Giovanni wherein he only used two Pokemon and the designs coming from FRLG or being completely new rather than being based on the original Sugimori art.

Then again, people like Pokemon Special, which is godawful, and Origins was far better than that is.
