From the class of '86, here we have Hot Rod, painted up in metallics and featuring Reprolables. This is his "Power of the Primes" incarnation from 2018 and is the first of 2 parts, the second of which will of course be the Rodimus Prime upgrade.

He was painted using Duplicolor barcelona red, VHT metallic orange engine enamel, highlights from Testor's model master acryl, and finally the fin was sprayed silver, then painted by hand with Tamiya clear yellow. All joints were sanded and this paint is like ARMOR, so he transforms like any store bought figure with ease. Painting a figure can have interesting effects; in this case he looks slimmer, and his shoulders look taller.

It was difficult to demonstrate the metallic effect so you'll excuse some of the lower light shots. Any and all comments and critiques are welcome. Thanks for your time!

The chest and flames were part of a set of decals from Reprolabels/Toyhax. If you haven't checked them out do so; they have some awesome stuff.

In fact...I didnt even plan on a full paint job on Roddy until I got the labels. Once I saw how beautiful they were I just had to make the entire figure metallic.

I am honestly impressed with this: you executed the paintjob masterfully, and brought this figure from "meh" to outstanding! Very clean work, and the colors are spot-on. I like them better than the sickly maroon color I often see on hot Rod; this definitely puts the "hot" in his name!

 

Love this mold, don't understand the hate it gets. Love this paint job too. Amazing color matching on the orange-gold to the reprolabels chest sticker. One missed opportunity to point out: I'd love to see how it looks with his little chest triangle picked out in white like his g1 animation counterpart.

 

Fan-freaking-tastic! More Hot Rod love is never a bad thing.

 

I feel the same, I guess people didn't care for the big bot mode but to me its a very clean voyager scaled Rodimus. Way more toon than Titans Return or classics. Plus you get the trailer...i basically ignore the leader bot mode entirely.
