Anyone else wishing they'd go the GI Joe 25th route and make the packaging updated retro? I know shelfspace is probably a factor in not putting deluxe size figures in boxes, but I'd at least like the packaging to have the old G1 look and tech specs..

but it won't be limited to G1. hasbro said any characters they feel like updating outside the main line would be put into the line. they even mentioned jhiaxus from the G2 comics as a possibility. we could get updated beast wars figures too. they just wouldnt look right in G1 packaging.

I think the old style grid packaging would look nice whatever you put in it, though. Heck, even the late G1 "red / purple grid exploding to yellows and oranges around the toy" would look pretty nice. Draws your attention to the toy. The Beast Wars would work well with this, since their packaging was essentially a variation of this - orange background with the eye in the middle. It's also not too different to what we have with the Movie packaging.

That's actually why I like the Hasbro packaging for the TRU reissues. I think it could work for other "generations", and would at least be a step up from the gaudy packaging of the TF Animated toys (I like the toys but no the packaging).

I would love to see a new take on the G1 packaging, so of course, we won't. Star Wars and now GI Joe have gotten note-for-note updates of the figures AND packaging, yet for some reason Hasbro is quite afraid to do the same for Transformers. Everything has to be kept 'fresh' and 'updated'. There are those who defend this practice, but I think new retro packaging for new retro figures is the most logical choice.

I actually quite like the packaging of the previous run of Classics, and wouldn't mind if they stuck with that. The red/yellow/silver is pretty vibrant. The only thing I would have preferred more is if it actually had artwork of the characters on it (vs. just photos of the toy).

G1 packaging would be fine, too, but I think by this point it's a little overused. I do think they should use it for any future G1 re-issues, though.

A while back, someone on this board posted some really slick-looking custom packages for the Classics Seekers. They had elements of the G1 packaging, but modernized it in a really appealing way. I'll go see if I can track it down....

EDIT: Found it. Created by Masterpiece Man. I think they're beautiful. And actually, they have even more G1 influence than I remembered.

I thought the first Classics packaging was horrible. Gaudy, bright, and the retouched photos weren't cutting it. The firebombed cities in the background looked pretty out of place on the Autobot packages. Those custom jobs are obviously a lot closer to what I would prefer to see.

Personally, I don't really care what the packaging looks like, just as long as it gets the toy to the store and in my hands in good conditon, as I don't plan on ever keeping anything MIB/MOC or MISB/MOSC. I prefer to let them out and let them breathe :thumb .

I feel you on that raven. I keep some of my collection MISB/MOSC but these classics are all opened and on display. The idea of the G.I.JOE/StarWars type retro updates is awesome. I would actually do the 1 loose 1 sealed thing for a couple of favorites if they did that.

Yeah. If they do end up doing something like that for Classics 2.0, I'll probably just keep the packaging nice when opening them, and display that along with the TF, lol. A little off-topic, but, I'm actually kinda curious as to what the Voyager class packaging will look like for the Animated line. The only thing that I'm worried about, is what Galvatron's alt-mode will be for Classics 2.0. They said they wanted to do more realistic looking alt-modes, but, to do a homage to him, his alt-mode wouldn't really be "realistic".

Yes, as far as the more realistic alts go screw that my friend. If the charachter uses an earth mode so be it, but they sure as hell don't need to go fishing for one and jack up a guy like Galvatron. An omage to the IDWverse version of Galvs would be nice, no gun mode just bot to cannon.
