I'll say again, I didn't mind the flames, I just wished they showed up on the vehicle mode.

Because otherwise they come from nowhere.

...totally unlike the rest of the half an SR71 that "comes from nowhere" and the second windshield that "comes from nowhere" and the blue head that "comes from nowhere".

    *sigh*

Great googly moogly people. Flames wars are silly; if you don't like them, take a sharpie to them, or don't buy it.

It's not like they've ever been confined strictly to Bayverse Optimii anyway....

I just seen the video for this figure on YouTube from Perfect Effects channel and that is 1 badass figure let me tell ya. I used the hyperlink from here on front page to get too BBTS and the price really isn't that bad as i really thought at first $250 - $300. But i was totally shocked to see $135 for a price and thought i just might be interested in this figure. I probably will see a bunch of review videos first of guys doing a review before i purchase though. I've bought Perfect Effect before and was very happy with what i bought. You just never know from 1 figure to the next and that is from any company.

G2 Laser Optimus? What's problematic about him?
(Yes, I know mean Movie Optimus, but still, not the first Optimus with flames.)

The base bot is about the same size as PE Jinrai (which is scaled to match the cab of Has/Tak’s Combiner Wars Ultra Magnus or Titans Return Powermaster Optimus Prime)

Yes, but this figure was styled to match Bayverse (which came before this). Either way, it’s meant to invoke Bayverse OP.
(Not making a value judgement here, just setting up the order of events)

Personally, my aversion to the flames isn't related to Bayverse OP. I just don't like flame paint jobs at all. On anything. Ha-rumph.

...and G1 and G2 Optimus Primes.
    Thusly, some flames.

I think one of the more disappointing aspects about the design is honestly how I feel that as cool as the concept of taking two versions of a character and making a hybrid design is how there\'s really not enough of one in the other. I mean for the main vehicle mode it\'s basically just the regular G1 truck mode with no changes except for the very G2 vibe his trailer has going. Robot mode on the other hand does meld the G1 and movie designs more with the movie-inspired head, the thighs and how the chest looks like DOTM Prime\'s chest if his alt-mode was the classic flat-nose cab but then you get into the jetwing thing which is cool but then the flames just spring up. Not only that but another design element of the film doesn\'t show up and that\'s the orange gradient effect. This is something that I feel is often missed on movie Primes and that\'s the fact there wasn\'t a straight red and blue paint job with flames but there was also an orange gradient with Michael Bay explaining it was done to counter act the usual issue of red not photographing well on camera and the result was a very cool color combination. Without the flames it just looks basically like that one statue that\'s out where it basically executes what this guy is doing. Now does that mean its bad? Not at all and I will say it\'s great to see third party companies wanting to take a stab at more unique twists on designs rather than confining themselves to the usual G1 moneymaking pot.

I like the look of this figure. I might pick it up but it\'s not on my priority at the moment.

Still in. Seriously, at this point, all you have to do is say "Optimus, but with armor" and I'm there.

While I agree that there should be more for the truck mode, I think the design shown here is still pretty cool. I actually like it so much, I would’ve much rather seen something like this for Optimus in the Bumblebee movie rather than what we got. My only issue with this figure is the faux chest. An Optimus Prime figure having a faux chest has never really made sense to me.

Cool. Please show us the G1 and G2 Optimus Prime figures that had flames like this before 2007. I'm very curious to see these.
Because the image you shared as from 2010/2011, *after* the Bayverse prime introduced the stylized flames.

The chest is because the robot was based off their prior Jinrai upgrade for PM Optimus. The stylized faux chest with the truck face on the back was required because the truck had to house a powermaster sticking out of it. Since this guy doesn't do that, I'm glad they added extra transformation to compact the truck away. I question if they would have done this at all if they didn't have an otherwise basic prime to work from, so I like to think of it as just another homage stuffed into this guy.

G2 truck and trailer - Ginrai-ish robot - Movie Jet Prime combined. The jetboard might be new.

This is completely not confusing if you remember this is a substantial retool of a cab for TR Powermaster Optimus/TL Ginrai, which ALWAYS has faux chests in small robot mode.

...and that has what to do with anything? You'll have to make up some point to have proven, since you have none thus far. To wit:
I highlighted the salient part since you apparently missed it.

Here's the original G2 Laser Rod Optimus. While it's hard to make out. Those are actually flames. It's got this weird blurry gradient thing going on, that's hard to photograph.

As for the movie style flames on this figure. I'm actually kind of mad they might be gone. I thought it gave the figure more character. I do wish the cab had them too, though.

The fact that there was an Optimus design that was a long nose truck with flames on him before the 07 movie came out honestly makes the whole hate fest towards the flames and long nose truck on the original Movie Optimus design because they felt it wasn't based upon any previous version to them more ironic now.

Not to mention how it detracts from the beautiful aesthetic and engineering beauty that this figure is. I wasn't going to get it as I've got the BB movie and already preordered the SS version with the trailer...but it's too damn glorious to just let it go.
