Mine arrived today courtesy of Amazon. Love the headsculpt and the overall design is pretty good. I wish they could have found a way to make his legs less hollow on the inside, a plastic panel to mirror the one on the outside of the leg would have added a lot of perceptible solidity to the whole thing. Likewise the white plastic looks a bit soapy (reminds me of the first MP Shockwave). I was also a little surprised at the complete lack of battle damage/scuffing - the benefits of being a strategist rather than a soldier perhaps? I was also surprised at how flexible he is - ratchets in the hips, and a nice swivel, give the legs a terrific range of motion (again a shame it makes the calves look so hollow when doing so). I love the translucent plastic with the silver detail underneath, and overall his proportions are excellent. It's probably the first official Datsun deluxe that's really captured the feel of the G1 toys. I was on the fence, but glad I have him now.
I love him was like transforming his G1 toy all over again. Took less than 30 seconds. Only wish is for wing pivots and rocket launchers. And instead of foot extentions, flipping the wheels on his feet would have been a better asethetic.
Honestly, Universe 2.0 Prowl is still better than this figure. The only things I don't like about 2.0 Prowl are the head sculpt/neck assembly and the tacky paint on the doors. A re-worked head and neck assembly would've done wonders for that figure. I don't hate the Siege release, but it leaves a lot to be desired. I think Barricade will be better, primarily due to the Smokescreen tooling, which makes this mold feel more "complete," as well as the color scheme.
This is my view as well. Now that the luster of the 'new' has worn off, this figure isn't all that great. It's not bad but there is a lot left to be desired.
I still quite enjoy the Universe figure and was holding out on getting this because it didn’t seem like an improvement. But aside from the awkward lower body proportions (his legs are so skinny!) this figure is more enjoyable to pick up and mess with. He’s simpler but in a good way, he achieves what he needs to smoothly and elegantly.
Universe Prowl is a better figure. Aside of the fiddly panelformation. Yellowing paint. And sticky paint. And ugly headsculpt. And ugly neck. But if you can squint your eyes hard at those small fails composing only meager 2/3 of the figure or so... It's just so much bett... Oh wait... Yeah, neither of these two is ideal, but Universe one can't live up to the competition. It's just dated in all the bad ways. Keeping mine only for the Earth vehicle mode.
I opened this guy last night along with my Ironhide. I have to say that I like him a lot more in person than in pictures. The joints on mine are perfect and everything fits and moves just fine. He could use a little more paint on the alt mode...but overall I think he is great. And, the foot articulation is impressive given the odd shape and geometry.
I really like this figure. He isn’t the worst deluxe in Siege. He reminds me of Sideswipe in design concept. Both take design cues from their MP figures and simplify it. I find him to be better than Hound, Cog and Skywheels.
Just picked him up on my lunch break. So, initially, I was going to pass on the WFC Seige line (save for 3 Refraktors), after collecting all the characters I wanted over the years with the Generations line. But, I ended up getting Megatron last week, and I loved him. Since Prowl is my #1 favorite Autobot, and possibly overall character, I felt obligated. The verdict? I think he is everything he needed to be. I appreciate the lack of "battle damage" slop, as he seems more of a "War room" guy rather than a "Warrior". I was really apprehensive of his overly wide gerth in his upper body. But in hand, he's fine, its all on how you position his door-wings. His feet were another concern, as it looked like he was rocking High-heel moon boots in photos. Again, in hand, it doesn't bother me at all. in fact, his feet are fairly poseable and it feels nice to have a Prowl that can ankle-rock for a more dynamic posture, instead of the boring datapad-checking bore he's usually made out to be. Ugh. These two figures have been gateway drugs into this line. I already have my sites on Springer (my 2nd fav Autobot), and hope to one day see a version of L.A. Confidential done up on Cybertron (Iacon Confidential?) where Prowl plays the Guy Pierce role, and Springer does the whole Russell Crowe bit. Not sure why I said that. I'll shut up now....
This guy has grown on me quite a bit. I know the car mode garners mixed reviews, but I love it and keep him in it most of the time. Transformation isn’t quite as pleasurable as Sideswipe but is fine, and robot mode is functional. Looking forward to picking up the repaints.
Can't stand this fig, the legs and his shitty knees kill it. Plus no shoulder launcher love and doofy proportions. 3/10.
If anyone has some spare paired RiD Cyberverse weapons - I think that was where these came from - the smaller pegs work for the shoulder cannons for Prowl. I want to say these came from an older Cyberverse Kup, or one of those variants. Not a bad match. Tim 'Toy Geek'
At first I wanted to hate that he had no shoulder cannons/launchers, but then I remembered that most of the prominent character models of him for the cartoon and comics don't either, so it's not really that bad. The only thing I don't like is it feels as if he can't balance quite right with perfectly vertical and straight legs/knees. Mine has to have the legs bent slightly at an angle from the hips, or have some flex in the knees to avoid being knocked over by a stiff breeze.
Got the ReproLabels set today with the much-needed shoulder cannons. Huge difference here. See for yourself.
OK, I'll bite, lol! LA Confidential is a great movie. Which bots play the other roles in your head? Arcee in Kim Bassinger's role? What about the villain?
This guy took me a while to warm up to. I already knew his robot mode didn't look stellar based off the promo photos, but I still felt underwhelmed when I got this (due to a combination of the skinny looking legs and 'cheap' super white plastic). But I've had him for a month now and between his transformation and butter smooth articulation, I can say this is damn good mold. And for what it's worth; as a toy/transformer I think he's better than Hound. I am also tempted to pick up the toyhax upgrade set, but not sure I want to spent almost the cost of the figure itself on stickers and shoulder rockets (I liked the Hound set but I got that for $7).
