Found a SS38 Optimus Prime from Bumblebee at Meriden Target today. Didn’t see another one, but they did have 2 of the red bulldozer guy from Devastator, so maybe I just overlooked it. They still have the first wave of Siege deluxes if you missed Hound elsewhere, and a bunch of NECA toys I can’t recall seeing at other Targets (the Godzilla from Kong vs Godzilla is so fabulously goofy, I think I love him).

Prime is a bit of a mixed bag, honestly. One the one hand, he looks terrific in both modes, the materials feel absolutely great, the paint’s solid, and he’s dense and heavy enough that you could almost be forgiven for thinking there’s some diecast in there (spoilers: there isn’t). On the other, the transformation is kind of a fiddly pain in the ass, homeboy could definitely use some heel spurs, and his poseability is pretty hampered in places, despite the huge number of joints. The ankles in particular. He’s very cool, but certainly isn’t Teh Bestor Prime Evar. Worth picking up, but don’t go insane trying to find him.

 

I can't find SS-38 anywhere. And as much as I love Shatter and Dropkick, that face has made me pass 4 times so far. Though knowing Car Dropkick is right around the corner, I may break down and snab it next time, since her wave is plentiful at Waterbury, Torrington and Naugatuck Walmart. At least two of each character at each store.
