I've been more impressed with the designs of the background Transformers in this issue. I'm sticking with the book for now. If they're going with their slower pace, I wish they would at least balance it out with some more world-building, especially using the mentoring aspect as a excuse. On the other hand, maybe a large 1-shot issue just about this version of the Cyberonians and their world (like the old Dreamwave MTMTE books without the biographies with a little of the recent Chris McFeely "Historia", though I understand if the writers want to keep some mystery for future plots) would be helpful at this point.
This entire series only needs four pages so far. Pg1: brainstorm is dead Pg2: Meet rubble. Pg3: obligatory windblade speech (we'll find the killer, etc) Pg4: funeral where we meet Megatron, prime, and Ironhide. Everything else is inept fanfic.
And Sara Pitrer-Durocher. I think she did some/all? of the Cyclonus pages. I agree though, would love to see Griffith and her do lots more art on this series.
Hmmm, felt it was a step back from last issue tbh. Dialogue sounding very flat again to me. I found Cyclonus’s portrayal until the bit after the dialogue finished kind of awkward and Chromia’s questioning of him deeply cliche. Prowl...so they’re going to make Prowl like this huh. Sigh. I did like some of the artistic flourishes though. The panel where Bee and Rubble are talking/wandering (everyone seems to wander around randomly and aimlessly in these books- see Cyclonus as well) in the background with an alien showing two generic bots some weird alien produce in the foreground was cool for example.
Same. They looked like tubes of baby dragons or something. Tell me about those! If this was the previous continuity (with Roberts writing) I would be thinking that those would come into play somewhere down the road. But in this case it just might be the artists having fun. We won't know until we know.
Well I'm liking what's going on so far, though I really wish the world building was more...focused. Then again I liked a lot of what the latter half of the previous continuity offered, while it seemed like most everyone else hated it, so I guess I'm weird.
There's stuff going on, as you say. It just feels like it's nowhere near enough, that there's so much more you could do with the page space. I have to be honest - while I'm not bowing out yet, I wouldn't be buying this series if it weren't for this community, my general fondness for the Transformers fanbase and a little bit of franchise loyalty. The main thing I look forward to with each issue is the conversation around it. If this were a completely separate comic trying to lure me in, I'd never have stuck with it even this far. That's not a great sign for sales increasing. Anyone got any idea how it's selling so far?
What's with the Prowl characterization? I really hate how this has become his default personality. This is a reboot, too, so wtf. It's kind of frustrating.
This is my problem. So much of this “reboot” kinda borrows from the previous universe. I admit, the Cyclonus part was cool, but to me, it was just a half step away from being Roberts Cyclonus. So much of what we are seeing isn’t really “reboot”, as opposed to “doing same thing but slightly different”. I dunno.
I feel like Ruckley is writing this as one long graphic novel and splitting it up rather than actually writing individual issues.
How many issues will it take for them to finally reveal why Megatron is so cranky? I thought he and Orion were supposed to be friends. They’re not even “friendly fighting” either, they just openly show disdain for eachother from the beginning. And issue 4 really ramped it up.
I can't believe nobody else has brought this up. With all toy-characters being illustrated very toy-accurate in this comic, this is almost certainly a glimpse at the as-yet-unseen Ratchet figure. I see he has a black/dark grey chevron on his forehead, I see his chest window folded closer to the body (how Ironhide's chest is left in-package) and I also spy a red cross on the shoulder. I have serious doubts about that last detail making it to the toy, but the rest seems viable. ~L~

THE ART, THE ART, THE BLAND AND MONOCHROMATIC ART, CAN'T BARELY TELL ANY BACKGROUND CHARACTERS TO A SMEAR OF SHIT ON A CHEAP WALMART TOILET PAPER! CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT ISSUE OF MORE WALKING, TALKING, DEPRESSION AND MORE TALKING !!!! YAY !!!! Ps, I will go reread this instead for the 27th time !
No one shots please! Keep it all within one central narrative, and if that means it takes longer for the rules and secrets of this world to be explained, so be it. That’s plot, not storytelling. They’re telling a story, and they get to dictate how they tell that story and at what pace. It’s totally weird to label it “inept fanfic”. You have no idea where it’s going - nobody does - and, again, you absolutely have the option to pause reading until more of the story has been released, or to stop reading altogether.
The most amazing accomplishment was somehow making Megatron’s speech at the rally boring. Theory: Megs mentioned Energon rations depriving Cybertronians of their full vitality. Maybe THAT’S what’s wrong. Everyone is half-asleep.
