Don\'t expect much from this.  But Transformers with Chinese stylings could be interesting.

So Nezha in Chinese Mythology is male, and yet the art looks like a girl.

Edit: The art is taken from a 1979 movie of Nezha, so he/she might not look like that.

I think it's way too early to make any calls on this. All we have is the premise.

There's a big difference between a mythology and an active religion.

We're just here for the robots, right? Who really cares what goofiness goes down around them.

I don\'t think I can really say much until I see what the final art style looks like or what the robot & alt mode designs look like.

I don\'t have any real objection to Transformers in a Fantasy setting as it\'s not like there isn\'t a ton of stuff already surrounding them than could be described as fantasy more than Sci Fi - they kinda already exist at an intersection between sci fi & Magic with things like Energon Weapons - being functionally a magic system or Alpha Trion essentially being a demi-god Wizard.

Optimus is a Heroes Journey archeotype too.

But once I see the product then I will know how much effort they are putting into it - it could be something a bit mixed - using existing & new moulds like Robotmasters did, or it could be all new.
Considering the sort of sentai-like toys that are popular on the domestic chinese market - I\'ll be interested to see if they go with mythological alt modes and combiners or if any transformer is a stand alone character. or if they will use established characters or create new ones.

If nothing else i\'ll be interested to see if they push the human character into a contempary or future setting or set the Transformers in the past.

Seeing as it is not as strange as the Eva X Transformers Crossover... and yet, we though the Chinese Zodiak edition figures, and the last half of Age of Extinction was enough pandering to the Chinese audience.

This can be a panacea for those who feel we are saturated in either G1 or BayMovie styling right now.

While I'm not super familiar with Chinese mythology, whenever I've seen Nezha appear in popular culture it's been as a fairly feminine man.

There is no way that this counts as cultural appropriation at all. If you read the original article, CCTV approached Hasbro about making this series; basically china started the project, and it's a co-production between the two.
