These Dairugger pictures left me unimpressed. And by unimpressed, I mean "I think it's ugly but I'm going to give him the benefit of doubt until we see the final version".
I completely agree with these statements. I was fortunate enough to get the SOC Voltron for $300, and picked-up the DX Chogokin VF1-J for the same price. These two are like museum display pieces that you can pose/transform (play with). So much quality in these figures. I've been collecting for 30+ years and these two pieces are the tops!
Looking forward to the SOC Voltron reissue although I already have one. I sold one last year and although I'm not sure I want another I just PO it just in case. Curious when POers will go up for VV. I picked up the DX 1J for about $250 and tried preordering Max, but came up empty handed. Bit the bullet with NY and was done with all the searching. Honestly, Bandai is really underselling their DX 1/48 line. Is should be priced between $249-299.
If they don't, they'll probably release the 'R' version. I'll probably (realistically) miss the PO for VV when it comes up. I hate the PO madness and seeing how unpopular the VF-1A Max version sell out fast is making me dread what the VV will be like.
What's the, "R" version? I"m thinking we'll have a better chance with the VV PO because they are going to sell them to US distributors just like the SOC Voltron. How long that window is who knows. I got cart jacked so many times trying to get Max and he was sold out everywhere within a few minutes which was infuriating.
The 'R' version is usually a recoloured cartoon variant. They've done this with past SoC and with Voltron being as popular I can't see them not doing one. Yeah I got cart jacked with Max as well. Frustrating.
The “R” means Renewal and sometimes means improved fixes and tweaks to the mold. And sometimes means Godaikin colors and or new weapons. Basically it’s a way for Bandai to justify selling us the toy again for a second or third time. And it differentiates from the original release or re-release which would have no changes and be the “same” toy.
Man I’d love to see a cartoon variant of Voltron! As for Vehicle Voltron, it’s still a bit off for me. Hope they fix the proportions up a bit more.
Wow. I actually like the look of this beastie. Looks like it means business and a dark alternate version where it'll have no qualms ripping your throat out.
No kidding. The detail is overdone, the combined proportions just miss that 'super-robot" mark and fall into plain old ridiculous, and despite all the angles and sharp points it's remarkably bland.
Yeah - I get some people can dig on the aesthetic of a toy porcupine, but even beyond that, the proportions are really really bad. The torso is about 1/3rd of the length, the upper leg another 1/3rd, and the bottom the last 1/3rd. His hands barely get past his hips heh.
Plus the legs have a really, really bad shape. If they were going for some Katoki-style of extra long legs, they should've made the arms smaller, the chest broader and blockier, and the legs more, uh, leg-shaped. The feet are also blunt and ugly, and the wings are too small and weak. The head is also oversized, and if they honestly wanted to tray something new they should've, I dunno, changed up the transformation? Maybe have the lion head son the limbs act as armour for proper hands and feet, and make the black lion's head the chest or something and have a smaller, more aesthetically proportion head come out of the torso? I can see what they were going for, but they missed the mark in every regard. Every aspect is just left of its goal, and it all soups into one ass-ugly fuckin' thing.
Huh. Interesting. The lions don't look very cat-like to me though. Reminds me of something. Let's see... what does that look like to me? There it is.
