Put it this way. They do all the repaints now and then they have to release more new molds later.

But he'd be a deluxe and thus a minature Tetra jet which I would very much want. Also the interview said the art was produced solely for the game...sadly

Honestly the thread aggravates me, because a lot of people really want these repaints. And the only repaints / remolds in the line are the Seekers, the Datsun Bros, Sideswipe / Redalert and Ironhide / Ratchet, which are all fandom favorites.

And the box sets are HOT!

 

I feel this reveal was very underwhelming.
But I felt that way about most Siege things.
The Datsuns are supposed to share a mold though, and we knew Greenlight would. So the only real dissapointement is Slamdance who might have been a very expensive casette two-pack if he transformed into cassettes as well as vehicles and a torso and legs.

 

I love that we still call them Datsun brothers after almost 40 years of repainted!

 

I don’t understand why it does. I admitted that my perception may be skewed. And, the disagreement has been so overwhelming that I think it would’ve been better posted in Unpopular Opinions. My initial reaction has no bearing on those releases.

I still disagree with those implying that Smokescreen is alright as a Prowl/Bluestreak repaint. He started as a remold. Akin to how coneheads should not be seeker repaints, but remolds. Like I stated before, the head change seems like the bare minimum. Smokescreen is a particularly sore spot for me, as I don’t think any Hasbro release represents the character completely. The same goes for Sunstreaker becoming a SideSwipe/Red Alert repaint/remold. Also, Bumblebee/Cliffjumper. Siege is so close with Smokescreen, though.

 

The thing is, they haven’t gone that overboard yet, not cw levels of overboard. It’s still beats repacking the same old wave one deluxe in wave 3 or 4 to fill out the line because it’s really either repaints or repacks, sometimes you have to go with the lesser evil

ALL of the straight 100% repaints are store exclusives, all of the "repaints" in the main line are actually remolds in some way or another

It's not an unpopular opinion per say, most people don't like a bunch of repaints clogging up the line. But there is a bit of an acceptance now that this is a Transformers toy line and after 35 years of it some degree of reuse and repaint is to be expected.

It's kind of a necessary evil, but at least most of these repaints are meant for exclusive releases which rarely get new tooling anyway (although these guys at least have a few new things like guns, effect pieces, and even heads).

Which is odd because that’s exactly what Botcon did for the longest time and then they asked you to pay a huge markup for them and people were cool with it.

You’re right, and I have been corrected for forgetting that the head is remolded.

 

The Universe 2.0 versions were loosely modeled on the Nissan 370Z, which is the modern "Datsun" Fairlady.

 

Datsun Bros and Seekers usually are almost unchanged between the individuals so no biggie.

 

Repaints and remolds have been a Transformers toy staple for 35 years. I don't see the point in getting up in arms about it at this point.

 

My only problem with Seeker repaints is that it's usually just Starscream, Skywarp and Thundercracker.
I'm really enjoying Starscream since I got him but I'd love to see this mold repainted over the next few years like the chug deluxe mold was as all the newer and obscure Seekers:
