I personally don’t have a problem with Rampage as he’ll likely never coexist with an individual Predacon. Barricade got to just be Barricade despite the Micromaster.

But Rampager, Wheelguage, Ramjack, Rampjack, Jackup, Jackal, Wheelgash, Rampion, Vilejack, Vile Jackal, or whatever work for me.

I’d like to see Hasbro resolve some of the duplicate names by making winks at Furmanisms.

I just remembered, didn't the comics have two Sideswipes, one in G2 colors? I only recently found out, I'm not really into the comics. But that probably gives another reason to get this, even if it isn't tied directly to the specific story I guess.

 

The aggressive 90-ness of Sideswipe's otherwise unnoteworthy appearance in the G2 comics is perhaps the closest thing in the character's entire 30 year history to being interesting or memorable (not including dying in the IDW comic), so it make sense as a repaint. It's certainly the only reason I'd ever have to buy a new Sideswipe toy...

Because Sideswipe is the worst character.

TBH, I mostly exaggerate hatred as a joke... but real talk Sideswipe is like the embodiment of Transfans' hypocrisy. He's an utterly useless character that, despite being from the very first wave of toys, has contributed nothing of value to the franchise. He's never had a noteworthy role, he has no real discernable personality (although "is Sundstreaker's brother" occasionally gets confused as one) and even has a fairly mundane alt mode and yet he shows up in everything. When Masterpiece decided to make toys of the full cast Sideswipe was the first to be released. He's been a playable character in both WFC and Devastation and even got a toy for FOC despite not being in it. Everytime the G1 toy line reboots he's not far behind. He's in every Transformers comic despite not doing anything... even his name is rivaled only by Wheeljack as the most boring and generic car-themed name!

Everytime a new character is introduced fans demand that they justify there existance... but not Sideswipe. He's just this constant thing that never goes away and is never questioned.

That would sound silly if they add him to G1 like many others before. Unlike Lugnut or Tidal Wave, he has big name completion. Even Barricade was ok because he just shares a name with a Micromaster. (Like Sky High or Barrage)

In a world of dinosaur, city and combining alt modes a red car is a red car. Mind you, being a red car IS the closest thing he has to a defining character trait so I'll give him that.

Yes. When Arcee was tracking the Dinobots and the protoforms under the care of Trypticon, she was jumped by one of those protoforms. She named him after the recently deceased Sideswipe. Once the protoform developed more, he started to look like Sideswipe in his G2 colors.

 

You literally just described every G1 Autobot car character. Not bagging on you for disliking Sideswipe, just pointing that out. Though I'd hardly call a Lamborghini a "mundane" car.

Countach is an amazing alt mode. Probably my favorite of all the G1 cars. Agreed.

Sideswipe wasn't in the Marvel G1 much that I remember. He did have a lot of parts in the cartoon: Sideswipe (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity - Transformers Wiki

Did his alt mode carry him in the toy form and video game media throughout the years when other characters should have more of the spotlight....yeah I don't know about that. Maybe compared to Shockwave since he needed more releases.

 

I think sometimes a character is defined by his image. There are characters in all major franchises that may not have done much except look cool while hanging out and being a generic. It's an unfortunate result of having a shotgun blast for a cast and only so many characters get a spotlight.

But thanks to that alt mode, I think a lot of kids got him and played with him. The nostalgia they feel is for the image of the character and the personality they gave him when going zap/pow with their toys when they were seven.

I never had Sideswipe but I wanted him so bad. And yes, it was his alt mode that I loved so much. A friend of mine had Red Alert so I got to at least handle that figure as a kid. G2 Sideswipe was the first version of the mold I ever owned. This Seige G2 Sideswipe is more nostalgic for me than the standard color Sideswipe or Red Alert.
