That depends on the director's ability to push forward his/her creativity over a producers'.

You know what? I hope Hollywood does not care about whether or not an idea is good or not and just film it. Bad ideas have turned good in the past (i.e. Lego Movie; Bumblebee) and good ideas turned bad (Batman v. Superman, Suicide Squad).

Agreed. I don't want them to do the thing like the MCU where you have sequels like Iron Man 2, Thor The Dark World or Ant Man and the Wasp where it may be entertaining but it's ultimately filler in the end.

It’s definitely coming so you may as well resign yourself to it. I agree that we don’t need another “Bumblebee helps a troubled teen find themselves” retread though. It needs to grow beyond that.

Character and story. That’s what it’s all about.

 

I think that a good result depends on many things, like with any movie. A lot of moving cogs. But in this case, Lorenzo and the rest of them seem to be central to the mechanism, which I find worrying. Who knows what the future holds. At this point, it's all hope and speculation. I don't remember the last time we didn't have any idea what to expect.

 

An 'Optimus/Bumblebee Buddy Cop Movie' would not be unwelcome to me.

 

No they do not seem to be central. Stop being dramatic, Lorenzo isn't even aware of the actual plot of the actual movies. It's pretty clear he's a "sign my name on it and collect my paycheck" kind of producer when it comes to the content of the films.

 

Hopefully with the other Autobots on their way at the end of the first movie they'll feature them, too. Maybe Bee teaching them about earth and, hopefully, getting his voice fixed.

 

Transformers is meant to have an ensemble cast. I don’t need a movie specifically about Optimus Prime. Optimus Prime is always treated as a lead character anyway.

 

Yeah, that's what bugged me about the idea of a Bumblebee movie. He was already the feature TF of every other movie.

 

It just occurred to me that if Starscream goes after Prime that he could have a "special team" of "Elite Super Seekers" that conist of the original Seekers or something similar with their tech spec powers.

I think it would be really cool if each Seeker shared a general robot frame but turned into a unique Earthbound jet.

 

I feel like an Optimus movie would naturally include some other Autobots, just focussing on a one-off adventure of Prime by himself ala the BB movie.

I'll take any TF movie, ensemble or not, if it's as good as Bumblebee was. I really want to see Optimus returned to the more human character he should be, one that's strong, intelligent and wise, but also kind, personable and passionate. For years I feel as though the character has become little more than a speech machine with little humanity left, speaking almost exclusively in lengthy, pontificating diatribes verses real, earnest dialogue.

Hell, even TF1 had him speak normally and banter with the Autobots here and there, but it's like since ROTF even in other media it's like every single thing he says is meant to be the most epic thing ever.

 

Personally I prefer the idea of "Bee and OP buddy cop" film. Optimus has never been super interesting on his own, he's kind of stiff and his character depth is all comic book melodrama. He works better as "the leader" or "the seasoned one" in a cast than as a standalone character of his own, so him and Bee being the focus sounds ideal to me.

 

I feel like the goal of a Prime standalone should be to remedy that.

 

It should, but also, it'll likely try to keep him accurate to how he's been in those movies and in those he is just "the leader guy that gives orders and speaks pretty words". And it's a bit harder to squeeze something fun out of that. It's no coincidence that the best Optimus we had in the last 20 years was TF: Animated Prime who is really a completely normal "young leader character" with the name Optimus slapped on. It simply is a much easier character to get something relatable out of than whatever the hell Mr. "ONE SHALL STAND" delivers. YET, SADLY, Mr. One Shall Stand is the one pop culture is more attached to and thus likely the one Hollywood will try to keep pushing.

While I agree that Peter is getting up there in age perhaps given the delay, it would be best to find another voice actor. To me and many others, he will always be the definitive and originator of the character. But he is human and I'd hate to have him start the film only to never finish it leading to having to have someone step in.

That aside I loved the duality of Optimus in ROTF and TLK, one who genuinely was willing to continue to help humanity. While the other, battle weary from years of Earth's conflicts and still a bit salty from AOE. So a mix of those two personalities with a new story,
