WAIT WAIT WAIT !!!!! I BELIEVE WE ARE GOING TO SEE CYCLONUS DO ... more standing and talking... I repainted my walls 7 times now, because of these comics, thank you, IDW.
The original Marvel run started as a four issue limited series. In those four issues, we were given character development for robots and humans, a full story arc, and four cliffhanger endings. This series in three issues have given us a tiresome baby bot (“what’s that? What’s that? Oh... what’s that?). Political intrigue that’s more CSPAN than Game of Thrones. And dialogue as exciting as a textbook. There is this thing called “pacing”. It does wonders for stories. I can deal with slow burn approaches, but no one even lit the pilot yet on this one. Back in the day, comics were able to tell stories and grab you with 4 issues. Some managed to do that with a single issue. I will give IDW six. If nothing happens by then? I’m out.
Wow, they even went with the Combiner Wars toy version of Cyclonus. Does Hasbro feel like they need to move some back stock? Feeling more and more like a barely disguised marketing vehicle.
IMHO this is definitely better than before. The art is FAR better- I actually see emotions- and emoting!- this time around. Chromia's face actually changes expression from panel to panel! The story- jury's still out on that for me. I don't really think any of this preview is bad, but I wonder if the last three rather dull issues just have everyone ansty for more action. Which is true for me, too. I actually LOVE comics where characters just sit and talk, when it's done right it can be a lot of fun. But these three issues of bland talking back and forth have even me just wanting someone to fight already! Still, this preview has me more interested than anything previously. I wonder what Cyclonus is up to and why they have to chase him to talk to him.
I'm not one to be super critical. But why do have Fanstoys Phoenix head and windshield mixed with Siege Jetfire as cover art. Seems a tad out of order. Something's off with that left arm. I see MP screamer below.
1) That page of Windblade tackling Cyclonus looks terrible. Having some visuals of showing the characters transform can really help make the scene more cohesive. 2) Why are they going after Cyclonus? This is his first appearance yet it seems as if they're implying everyone knows who he is. We don't know anything about this Cyclonus so why should we raise suspicion towards him? Edit: 3) Scratch that this whole set up of Chromia and Windblade pursuing Cyclonus is terrible.
Fair point in that he has a past with Quake. Now the question is why they would think Cyclonus would have any current ties to him. I know they're searching for leads but surely they'd be asking anyone who's been in contact with Quake recently or knows where he usually goes.
Like. I. Said. We have no evidence to support that Cyclonus has had any contact with quake aside from this flashback. We also don't know when this supposed war took place so it could have happened centuries ago. Any police investigation would follow me relevant leads. Neighbors, local businesses, and so on. They wouldn't follow someone who knew their suspect during their time in the military with a massive time gap. To punctuate my point, Chromia,Windblade, and the reader have no evidence to suggest Cyclonus has had any contact with Quake beyond this one flashback. Cyclonus isn't referenced by name in it so how do they know to go after him? For all we know it's Ferak. They just decided to ask him questions off-screen? Only a terrible writer would make that decision.
