Since it’s a new era, new take....what if the first murder victim was Starscream instead of Brainstorm? And it’s a permanent death, too. So he’s out of the reboot entirely.

Might’ve hit harder to see such a big name die early on. Tells you that NO ONE is safe.

 

Well that would suck. It would mean we wouldn’t get to see Starscream in any of these comics for who knows how many years. Also it would be a huge missed opportunity to do anything interested with him.

 

I think it’s better when you let the big players take a break. He’d still be in Cyberverse and (probably) the movies. In fact, I think it would be interesting and bold to remove Starscream AND Megatron and have Soundwave as the main Decepticon leader with Cyclonus as his second in command.

I'm not happy they have Elita One as an Ascentacon. Frustrated to the pit, really. Why can't they just keep her as a hero and place her BACK with Optimus like she should be??

What if the first murder was not Brainstorm nor Starscream, but Unicron? Wouldn't that be an amazing twist?

 

Remember when Transformers: Prime killed off Cliffjumper in the first episode and how that was supposed to set a mood about how anyone could die at anytime? And then they proceeded to kill off no one for the most part except for a few characters here and there and how most injuries the characters sustained didn't really mean anything in the long run except for one or two? (Like UM's hand and Breakdown's eye.)

I think there's better ways to create tension without killing off characters people like and want to see, why not create a new character, let us fall in love with them, and then strike them down? It's very hard to feel anything about the deaths of CJ (In both Prime and the Bee movie) or Brainstorm here when they literally only appear and die, we don't get to know them, to anyone who isn't a TF Fan, why should they care? They didn't know the character. It's mostly just cheap shock value, that's all.

 

I don't think I'd like Starscream permanently out of the reboot, but permanently out of a body (save the occasional possession) and spending most of the time as Ghostscream? That I could get behind.

Bonus if no one except Mindwipe can see him as a ghost.

Scratch that, Mindwipe and some unfortunate human psychic who sees a giant invisible robot walking around one day with zero context.

 

The only plot twist I want to see is for the book to be good.

 

No the real pilot twist is Rubble becomes Rumble, so Bumblebee's guilt made him so hard.

 

Yeah, it'd be like if they did an Avengers comic without a single mainstream Avenger in it. No A listers, no iconic characters, just background characters and z listers. I'm betting that it would sell like, well, a shit Avengers book with no real reason to read it other than it has the name Avengers on it.

 

They've done Avengers comics like that. Way back. Teams had no big hitters like Cap, Thor, Iron Man or Hulk. Bunch of nobodies.

 

And how well did they sell? Better yet, how long did those teams last? You aren't exactly refuting my point.

I don't mean to disparage the OP, but if we are already at the point of "change the murder mystery presented in issue one to something we like better," we are out in the weeds.

 

I feel like killing Brainstorm is a big deal. Am I wrong? Brainstorm was a huge part of the previous series. I think killing him this early is the equivalent of what was done with Cliffjumper in the Prime cartoon. Does Brainstorm's death not have that same impact? I guess not.

This is valid.

We never really did get to 'know' this version of Brainstorm, so his death was meaningless. It would have been better to build him up a bit, and then kill him.

 

And that series is held in high regard for the sheer level of fanwankery squeezed into one issue. Seriously, if it had been full of Furmanisms and featured more BW characters, half the fandom would have been smoking a cigarette with a satisfied look after reading it.

 

That’s more of a testament to Nick Riche than the characters.

 

What if it's a red herring in that the Starscream that's killed isn't the Starscream we know and THAT bot takes up his name and mantle to avenge him?
