I agree. The early reviews seem to love it, and it just opened on Rotten Tomatoes at 98%. I suppose it's possible that this will be a "Last Jedi situation" (meaning critics view it as well-made while fans view it as sloppy), but I'm going to reserve judgement until I see it. I remember seeing similar criticism for Infinity War from early fan reviews (lack of traditional structure, messy, too action-focused, etc.), but the vast majority of critics, audiences, and fans loved it.

97% with 56 reviews is FAR more than I was expecting for the first round of reviews. I seriously doubt this will stay in the 90s but damn.

Guys, I'm sorry to break it to you, but the leaks are 100% true.

I've already viewed photos from screenings of Widow dying (framed the same way as Gamora's death), a shot of Stark saying his goodbyes, and of old Steve (he looks like Clint Eastwood 15 years ago).

Agree. I was thinking for a while how to explain this film and reaction to how fans/critics will react. I think The Last Jedi is a comparable film in this case, glad you brought it up. The Last Jedi essentially wiped away a lot of the previous star war chapters and radically changed key character arcs. Endgame is about the same. You’ll leave the film the same way as Last Jedi- it looks good, some fun moments, but it’s unfulfilling and leaves a bad taste in your mouth that over ten years of building character arcs, the previous films are essentially “snapped” away by the last hour of the film. It would have been better just to restart the MCU, instead of half-ass it as they did in endgame. It’s like they were too afraid to recast the parts, so instead they came up with left-field endings for the characters.

And the whole quantum realm/returning everything to ‘normal’ throw away lines/parts at the end is way too messy and sadly like back to the future part 2. It’s just a mess.

I'm reserving judgment 'til I see it as well.

As for the people in this thread putting out the "leaks", I'm sorry, but you're on my ignore list.

That's the only thing I'm afraid of, that they overcomplicate the time travel logic and just handwave it away, instead of actually reigning in the plot with pre-planned rules.

Now that details are out, wouldn't it be a better idea to avoid the thread until you've seen the movie, if you're worried about spoilers in an actual thread for discussing the movie?

Not being snarky there, just genuinely wondering if that'd be the safest bet to avoid being accidentally spoiled.

Besides, I think everyone in the thread has been pretty good at keeping info behind spoiler tags so far.

Huh, interesting. As someone who didn't care for TLJ, that makes me nervous. On the other hand, I'm not quite as attached to the MCU as I am Star Wars, so I doubt it will frustrate me as much. Still, I want them to get the ending to this era right. (I didn't look at the spoiler part yet, I'll see what it says after I get back from the movie on Thursday night).

I'm honestly amazed that no reviewers seem to have jumped on some of this stuff yet! No doubt the criticisms will come soon enough though.....this is the internet, after all.

Good luck in avoiding spoilers until you've seen it! :)

Same goes for everyone else trying not to accidentally run into spoilers:

Didnt think this movie would have the same impact as infinty war. By the sounds of the leaks and reviews, itll be more like the first couple Avengers movies. Still good, but Infinity War was really something else.

This is just going off the spoilers I’ve read but...
I’m surprised how deeply they went with the time travel angle. I did not expect them to dive back to the past MCU to this extent. It also sounds like it makes quite a mess. I’m not sure how the timeline will be reconciled for future films. Granted, I’m not too concerned about that and my thoughts may change once I actually see the movie for myself.

Creating continuity errors? The infinity gauntlet from the MCU must be the reason for Fox's X-Men's Timeline. Another mystery solved.

I’m hoping the Gauntlet pulls in the Silver Surfer.

I’m thinking of bailing the night I have tickets to see a band...

Just got out of my session. There will be stuff people complain about, one of which I'm a bit upset about myself. But
the time travel is a paradoxy 'the other films are all valid for these events to happen' kind, which is one of two I'm familiar with where they don't piss over the last 10 years and I don't consider the time travel a problem at all and instead a lot of fun.

Film had me crying for about 10 minutes. Got myself under control and
then a relevant character referenced relevant food and relevant liquid leaked from my eyes for another minute
That's pretty impressive. Their character work makes that last reference sadder for me than most character deaths I've seen on screen.

Finally two different moments, even outside of the more obvious stone metaphor conversation, making me wonder about whether they tie in to +s spin off shows. That's the cynical side of all this, but hey more Hiddleston.

Is it true that there are
no mid and end credits scenes?
