Hopefully that will happen in Bumblebee 2.

I like the designs, and I think this is the best we've seen out of Bayverse/Knightverse by far. The finished variants look amazing, and its interesting to see the concepts for them.
(Out of the ones featured within this round-up, I think the winner for design would be Ratchet, hands-down)

Alright, it seems you're taking each word of mine far too seriously (that or I'm oblique in my wording...): "sell [my] narrative"? I'm arguing my opinion - you don't have to conform to my viewpoint at all.
Ergo, I will discuss how I disagree about the argument of Bayverse's designs (1-3, mind you) being overly complicated and busy (I'm trying to recreate Prime in 3D, I've had to look at these characters in detail) when I feel that BB's designs show sections of this very problem if not worse!

To add - I'm discussing solely the DESIGNS, the way how the characters look. I'm well aware about the many many drawbacks of Bayverse and what BumbleBee did get right over the other live action films. I'm not selling anything to anyone, I'm just explaining/justifying my thoughts on these.

Are you taking just about the concept or the final movie version?

Final, I much prefer the concept. I love the bigger eyes and shoulder cannon.

As much as I love most of these designs-- Wheeljack and Brawn stand out to me in particular-- I much prefer the OT design for Ironhide, and Arcee's porcelain doll-like face is vaguely horrifying.

These designs are quite bland, and feel less personal than Bumblebee and Optimus. It's like someone said to make slightly detailed updates to G1 characters. It's not exciting at all. Ratchet and Ironhide are even basically the same design. This isn't the 80s so what's the excuse? I get it, people see G1 as the heart and soul of the franchise, but as much as I thought the Cybertron scenes were awesome I am finally sick of G1 being everywhere. The series ended decades ago. As a concept artist I can provide constructive criticism towards the Bayformer designs; this isn't a "G1 sucks" comment. If the Bayformer designs were simplified like Bumblebee was I'd call that progress, but I look at these designs and don't see the creativity because these characters were designed 30 years ago. They're not original.

When I saw Megatron's concept art in 2006 I was excited because it was new and different. When they reveal his new design I'll likely think "This is exactly what I expected." How can people say that they are sick of Michael Bay and want something new, but in the same breath applaud how we're going back to the 80's designs? G1 is in the toyline, TV series, comics - everywhere. Give me something new and different.

The reason the designs are simple and some characters use the same model is because they don't appear for that long.
Why waste money on something if it's not gonna be in the film for a full minute.

Nobody is gonna mention that Arcee has the creepy Bayverse toes when pretty much everyone else has boots?

Her feet kinda remind me of people who wear socks with their sandals/flip flops.

Those are Shatter's feet. Arcee was made out of Shatter's CGI model, you can see other Shatter parts on her cgi model like elbows and other internals.
