Seriously considering spending birthday money on Dinobots. Should I spring for the POTP ones while they’re still attainable or wait until the WfC trilogy does those guys later down the line?

I mean there's no guarantee that they will get a wfc trilogy set. It's totally up to you. Me personally? I love the potp dinobots. With the PE kit and reprolabels, they really look good.

There’s no guarantee that wfc will do them, so if you want official and pass on the potp ones you are taking a gamble

I just installed the TDW set on my Abominus, and I get some of the criticisms.

    Pros:

The head and chest really do look great. The fins on the side of the chest are tricky to replace, and I needed to use a screwdriver to force them out without causing breakage.

The thigh pieces actually aren’t as bad as others are saying, at least in my experience. I think I actually might have them on backwards, as I’ve got the larger piece anchored on and the clip-on piece is the more loosely attached. Overall, it’s pretty solid and doesn’t pop off when I move the legs.

I like that Hun-Grrr got his weapon. Right now, my Siege Sideswipe is wielding it. It kind of reminds me of G2 Sideswipes guns.

    Cons:

The hands are decent. The connections are tight enough to hold well, but not so loose they’ll fall out.

The feet suck. Plain and simple - these feet suck. They can barely hold the weight of the combiner, and tend to come apart.

I’ve gone and ordered the PE kit to swap out the hands and feet. I did see Chefatron ended up doing that, but it produced a solid, stable, and good-looking combiner.

Do what the 3 post below you said.
Better to get them now while you still can, rather than wait for something that might not happen.

Other than some compromises to design on Grimlock due to the Combiner gimmick, they are really great G1 updates. They transform easily and they look great. Add Nonnef's sets to make them even better.

I have the PE abominus set and don't love it. My feet come apart easily and the hands aren't quite as tight in the hole as I would like.

I had both the Perfect Effect and TDW Abominus sets. While the TDW feet are fiddly and fall apart easily unless tabbed in all the way at eleventy different points, overall I still prefer the TDW hands and feet to the PE versions. Plus with TDW you get a LOT more than some repainted guns that don't belong to the character and some feet & hands that may break the peg holes for them.

My abominus set is in my pile of loot but did tdw fix there hands and feet? On all of my tdw set I had to sand down the pegs.

Huh, I've never had to sand anything down with TDW. Definitely did with PE sets (official, not KO. Those KO sets were badass).

For PE I have the blue optimus set, white set, and 2 black sets. PE ko I have the white set, purple set and the color match set for bruticus. None of those needed sanded or broke any ports. Tdw I have defensor, superion and the dinobots and all three sets needed sanded both hands and feet and I needed to crimp the wrist swivel rivet tighter on the hands.

That would be me. Not one of my prouder moments as I originally told myself I didn't want it. Orion is still cool, just a tad huge. I have an extra Rodimus trailer too just because I wanted the cab as a Voyager Rodimus and a separate combined one as Powermaster Rodimus.

If money isn't a serious issue, get them now. Worst case, a new set comes out in WfC and you just make Volcanicus an entirely different character.
