Easy solution, you just have to put a sticker on top of another sticker

So. I had an amazing idea. I had a couple KO MP-10's I used for fodder to fix a couple real MP-10's for friends. Well I had an arm left over with a logo. I popped that sucker off. Trimmed it slightly on the top and sanded the back nice and smooth and flat, and glued it in place. Looks amazing. Much better than a sticker any day. Now, he is PERFECT to me.

Have you seen the one's for MPP10? These are made the same way, just two little pieces holding it. I took the arm apart, took a tooth pick and pushed it right out. I did heat it very little before hand so that may of helped. But it was not anything major heat wise. Just enough to make it feel warm to the touch.

I asked if there was a chance they'd make the 3D faction symbols with a white backing, and I got a reply that said it was unlikely.

That said: they've done custom raised symbols for other sets before, so there's an outside chance they could do one if they decide to make a set for TE-01. Wouldn't hold my breath, though.

One of the things holding me back from creating a 3d printed raised symbol, aside from laziness, is I don't know how to paint it. Doing it by hand is going to result in some unevenness but I can't think of any other way to paint the background white and the front red. That and there'd be no way to sand the recessed areas smooth without damaging the edges of the raised areas.

 

Ask Jream maybe? He pulled it off with his logo for FT Jetfire.

They have one that comes with the MP10 reprolabel set, but it's a larger size. It is only slightly raised also.

 

That looks great. I just wish someone could produce that with the white outlined symbol.

 

Does the sticker that comes with TE01 suck so much? I would prefer an outlined cartoon style autobot symbol for my TE01vs (going to arrive on monday or on tuesday)

 

Mine was cut off center so I couldn't use it.

 

good idea and looks good !   what i done (after messing up a couple of the logo's it come with) was put the 2 remaining logo's it come with on top of each other then a water slide that fit in there on top of those to bring it up sort of flush and then a couple of bigger water slides on top of each other that are bigger than the logo hole , its about the same size as yours and because i used 2 waterslides ontop of each other its got a ridge around the logo

what we need is for @jream to work his magic and make something like what you have done

Can't help with the sanding, but for the painting couldn't you just design it so that the white is recessed and the red is raised? Then print in white, put a thin layer of red paint on another surface, and put the symbol face down onto the paint. The raised part should pick up the paint, but as long as the recessed part doesn't touch the paint it'll stay white.

 

I mean I could just paint it white and then do that, but the problem is the entire raised area should be red, not just the top surface of it. I could do it by hand and get it almost perfect but there'd be just a little bit here and there where too much white was showing or whatever and it would bug me. I'm OCD like that. Still, it's on my to-do list but it's not very high on it.

 

I'll never understand why these companies raise or indent the symbol space. It adds zero value, and often causes problems. Just leave a smooth, flat area where it should go. Done! Then it'll look great when you put any size symbol there...and for the folks that choose not to use symbols on their figures, it still looks natural...or if they prefer their symbol go somewhere other than the usual spot, same.
