Can we talk about the Meta-Contextual nature of the latest Go-Bots comic?

This was awesome^^ thanks for sharing! Overall I've loved the series, although I haven't gotten the last issue yet. Although from the spoilers, I'm excited. I feel like this is the most in depth coverage we've gotten of the Gobots in a long time, if ever.

I'll be lying if I didn't admit my inner child loved the series using all the toy-accurate labeled rooms with their attended purposes of the Command Center during the last couple issues.

As I said in the thread for the final issue, it was bad.

It tells us we should care about these characters because they eventually upgrade into characters we love. But it gives us no reason to care about those characters prior to changing them into their TF counterparts.

It’s like the story was trying to coast out on the coattails of its more successful competitor. It’s bullshit & I hate it when writers do this. It’s not creative to say “hey! That Road Ranger guy is a red & blue truck just like Optimus! Teehee! Let’s have him be his daddy!”

Turbo was a red sportscar. Is he gonna be Sideswipe now? Hey, I bet Pocket upgrades into Sunstreaker! No. It’s stupid & it’s lazy writing.

You know what would’ve been interesting? To see someone take the Gobots license & actually try to do something cool with it instead of riding a very long, extended joke about how bad they were, complete with stilted, unnatural dialogue, shit art, and a dumpster fire for a twist ending.

Lol! I don’t know about Walky’s rage levels, but I’ll take that as a compliment. :D

It’s just that I’ve seen this done before in other shows & it’s always a disservice to the characters, to the actors, the show (or book, movie, etc) itself, and to the audience that’s been along for the ride. It’s bad enough when it happens in a random episode, but even worse, when they decide to end the show by having a bunch of other characters come in to steal the climax, resolution, and/or epilogue.

It almost happened with Beast Wars, when the original script for Nemesis part 2 was to have the conehead seekers revived & do battle. Thankfully the budget didn’t allow for it and we got 100% of the screentime devoted to the BW cast. Imagine having to cut down on the final battle between Depth Charge & Rampage to shoehorn in the coneheads. And now imagine you never saw G1 & have no idea who the coneheads are. Do you care?? Are you blown away that these random dudes are flying around and doing stuff? Or are you pissed that your favorite characters are getting sidelined for some G1 nostalgia?

It did happen with Star Trek Enterprise, when they had TNG usher them off-screen for the last time, making their final episode into a lesson for Riker to learn.

And if you want to know how that was received by the cast & fans, well... not good.

'Star Trek: Enterprise' Producer On The Finale And Aborted Fifth Season

There’s a right way to pass the torch, and I think the fact that having new characters run away with the big finale is a seldom used tactic shows that most people hate it & tend to avoid it.

    Cuz it sucks.

Meh, David is a dumpster fire all of the time.

I actually completely understand Mako's frustration with this book. He has valid criticisms.

My other beef is that despite all its flaws, I grew up with Gobots & do have a fondness for some of the characters, and I always wanted to see them done better. Not to mention that there were some things Gobots did better than Transformers. To handwave the cast away as being these other, cooler guys from Transformers is kinda insulting.

And to be fair, I’m only complaining about the ending. I haven’t read the rest of it beyond the preview pages nor have any desire (now) to do so.

Part of me in in full agreement with you. I watched the cartoon as a kid as well, and the way they were handled here was a huge departure from that show.

Personally, I liked this book for its kookiness. That said, I completely understand why people are upset with this book. It does take some... liberties that are a slap in the face of the original show.

How did Tom Scioli get hold of old Hanna-Barbera memos from 1985 ;)

If we're going to go through the GoBots/Transformers videos from YouTube over the past decade, I might as well throw this classic in for completist's sake. (with much love to GoBots from my part)

    1. Fuuuuuuuck David Willis

    2. My favorite dr smoov tf quotes are, as follows:

"I mean, I feel like a piece of shit most days..." "Then that's what you'll be from now on! Goldbug! Shitpiece!"

"Who the fuck is this autobot?"

"Autobots! Transform and let's fuck Galvatron in the ass! ... Not literally."

"Wheeljack, why the FUCK did you build the dinobots with tiny brains?"

"Shockwave, you can't shoot for shit."

    "Shut the fuck up, chip."

My favorite Smoov quote of all time is when Prime says, “I’m gonna take Megatron’s fusion canon and shove it right up his ass!!”

*dead silence as the Autobots stare on in total shock. Prime surveys his crowd....*

“... And his arm... will still be attached to it.”

    *Autobots cheer!!!*

I feel like it's to my shame that I found roomies when it was ending and read all of its walkie and all of the first part of roomies. What's bizarre is that in terms of values I do align withhim fairly well. He's just such an insufferable douchebag about everything with basically a cultish fan base and quite frankly his f****** writing and drawing has gotten worse over time. I was feeling very masochistic one day and tried to read dumbing of age.

    Jesus f****** Christ.

I appreciate the amount of work he's done on the wiki but the way that his opinions have almost been raised to a level of arbiter of all things Transformers is f****** ridiculous. Don't try and edit a Wiki page where you disagree with some opinion of something.

    Anyway whatever I enjoyed gobots

And here I thought I was the only one that detested our Lord and Savior Walky.

What I'd love to do is email him every single "Turn Signals On A Land Raider" comic every day, show him what a good webcomic looks like. Hell, Li'l Formers was a better strip than anything Walky did.

I don't think the vast majority of people who are aware of Willis actually like him.
