More importantly, no existing character exists to fill the role of Froid that was needed for the story. And people hate it when existing characters are changed so drastically that they became unrecognisable.
I had a theory that this new universe is the previous universe's Flashpoint. Caused by Springer trying to undo the war after Requiem of the Wreckers. It's possible. Nick Roche told me at TFNation last year when I asked him if that was his intent that IDW had left a few back doors in the comics to bring back the previous continuity, and that was one of them. Equally he also said to me the idea as he understood it was for the continuity to stand alone and the back doors were a safety net in case the new comics didn't take and they needed to backpedal - Nick was of the impression that IDW's higher-ups did not want to touch the previous continuity any more and had no genuine intention to roll back the reboot.
Not really? It's not uncommon for character backstories to be reset with a new continuity, especially if it was part of some kind of twist. Just look at Optimus Prime: he's been a dockworker, an archivist, a cop and now he's a senator. I'd say what people expect is characters just keeping their general personality.
This story is... not what I expect from a. TRANSFORMERS story... In all my years being a transformers collector, i would never take a transformer toy and say This Transformer would be perfect has a psychiatrist transformers... Have him sit in a chair and have Optimus lay on a couch, discussing how being a truck is stressful, being that most other autobots transform into cool cars and not him... But I still hope this comic does pick up the pace, it's like walking in mud.... I WANT SOME ACTION !!!! STOP WITH TFS JUST STANDING OR WALKING AND JUST TALK, TALK AND TALK !!! I WANT GUNS, ION CANNON, BLASTERS, ETC BEING SHOT, TRANSFORMERS EXPLODING, WAR, SOMETHING GOING BOOM !!! Please....
Well, Froid is unexpected. And this Threefold Spark War thing sounds interesting. Not too shabby. Plus, Sentinel Prime exists, so... yeah. Neato. And for the people complaining about there being a war despite there also being the first murder in living memory, the first issue outright said that while Cybertron was a perfect little utopia place with no murder, the colonies still had vices and issues like that. Call it a cop-out or retcon or whatever else, sure, but the facts/logic technically still checks out, if a bit contrived.
Any guesses on who the four patients where? Quake and who else? Maybe Slag, but I am at a loss for the other two.
I can't even ... there's literally all this going on in the pages you're commenting on. OK, maybe not an ion cannon, but still ...
Anybody else feel like there\'s zero nuance or subtlety to this? It feels like it\'s constantly trying to point at itself and go \"Look see?! Neat huh?!\" without being actually interesting.
Froid! And Quake is getting some actual character!! And is that Cyclonus i see with him in that battle!!?
Is that any different than JR making Tailgate and Swerve main characters? I mean, collectively the two of them fought Trypticon for thirty seconds in Five Faces of Darkenss and that was the extent of their character development prior to MTMtE.
So Froid's back, does Rung exist in this universe? Would he still be... y'know... that guy he ended up being...? I really like seeing the Cybertronian golden age, but I just don't feel a need to read this like I did with mtmte. Ah, well, not everything's for me and I hope the people reading it enjoy it. I hope I don't sound rude here, but are you implying those characters didn't go on to have fans of their own that don't wanna see them in more stuff? Because that's not the case. They can't, they went into a universe where none of them existed and there's already a Megatron here so they went somewhere else.
That was a flashback, it doesn't count ! I want the story to go there, it's like the starwars problem, OBEY : Hey, Any, do you remember when we fought 500 Hydrackens ?! ANY : Yes, good times... Both sitting at a table, drinking tea, bored out of their minds.... FLASHBACKS doesn't count !
I officially hate the line art in this series. It's really disappointing because I'm fully prepared to give Brian Ruckley a chance to tell the remainder of the story, but the art is just as important to me as the scripting. Either give the artists more time to work, or get someone else please.
Ruckley: “I had no idea that Brainstorm mattered to the last continuity so much!” Also Ruckley: “So here’s Froid”
I agree. This came right off MTMTE, they could of improved on it! I think it has something to do with the series being bi-weekly. When it comes to comics art is one of the most important elements that makes a story. If it looks like shit, it will break the immersion. Colors can also give off a tone of the story. Other important factors is artwork, shading, colors, backgrounds, and the character designs.
