Perhaps. But when taking a look at two worlds "colliding"...literally in the physical sense, consequences are bound none-the-less. And it's not just the tides that would be affected. Minimizing such a catastrophic event (the same as exaggerting it) can make anyone go..."meh." As if that catastrophe wasn't a big deal. If you want the audience to get the full scope of the disaster at hand, some realism has to come into play regardless of the "creative liberties" taken. If you want the audience to really get into it, emotions have to be manipulated, not just the visual and auditory senses by itself. Imagine if you will...seeing on screen something similar to the 2012 movie effects. Yeah those are about as unreal as you can get, but seeing the entire city of LA broken up like that as if the tectonic plates just said a big F U to humanity? :lol  All that destruction was more or less shock value. You got the sense of urgency when they were trying to run away from the super volcano blowing up, etc etc. Even though...realistically they would all died if something like that really happened. I'm sure you know what I mean.

*edit* Yeah I know using 2012 is probably the worst comparison...but that movie does highlight catastrophic events well enough to where you get the idea.

A similar flaw appears in the 1986 movie with Unicron being so close to Cybertron, with the only damage being done by Unicron's "mouth". But I've yet to see such an argument about how Cybertron and Unicron should be tearing each other apart from conflicting gravity wells leveled against that movie, or any arguments about how the science of that movie or the cartoon don't make any real sense. My point is that Transformers isn't meant to be grounded in reality, after all it is a franchise centered around giant mechanical beings fighting each other for good or evil. Everyone seems to keep that in mind until this movie or that movie rubs them the wrong way and suddenly that movie needs to be the most realistic, scientifically accurate movie in the given franchise. So, to conclude, if we're going to make complaints about how this thing that we don't like does this thing wrong, we should also call out this thing we do like for doing the exact same thing wrong. Thanks for attending my TED talk.

Yeah but notice how I never called that "a perfect story" either. But I get what you're saying.

There's a HUGE difference between animated movies and live action movies-- especially when the audience are watching from the perspective of a HUMAN, watching OTHER HUMANS in a HUMANOID ENVIRONMENT subject to HUMAN LAWS on EARTH

we tend to require a LOT more suspension of disbelief in live action contexts, and that is exactly why movies like TLK failed, because you're asking people to stretch their imagination TOO MUCH with TOO LITTLE engaging writing to make the audience more forgiving of those liberties.

obviously it's all MaDe Up FanTaSy, but there are limits, and breaking those limits requires sincere effort and well thought out writing! That's the whole point of fiction and science fiction! Give us, the reader/watcher, a GOOD REASON to want to believe in these laws you're breaking for the sake of entertainment, or you're just wanking yourself

Anyways, if you're the type of person who just wants to marvel at impressive CG and loosely connected concepts while basically creating your own backstories and canon to explain away the writers terrible oversights, why not just play video games?

You always have the right answer to everything man. Well said.

Yes I can prove you wrong. It could be interpreted that in TLK, the Creators were Quintessa and the knights of the round table were the Knights of Temenos. I don't believe that's true, but it could be interpreted as that.

The thing is, 2012 is not a good example for realism whatsoever. Everything about it scientifically is a joke. It's not a scientific exemplar compared to any of the Transformers movies.

Now if you want to make the case that the destruction was more dramatic in 2012 than The Last Knight, then sure, one can certainly make a good case for that (and I would agree, as mediocre at best 2012 is), but that's a separate discussion entirely.

And just to make things 100% clear...I don't even like many of the creative decisions in TLK, including the decision to make Cybertron come to Earth for the second time in the films, but at the same time, if people are going to rip apart The Last Knight or one of the other films for some things while giving equivalent things in some of the other films free passes, then I don't think that's really fair.

That said, and using, "Two Worlds Collide," as an example, I do think The Last Knight's advertising was all over the place, to the point that it made it look like it didn't know what it was. The first four movies were exactly what they promised, whether one likes them or not, with the exception of Shockwave being a red herring to cover Sentinel's role. Meanwhile, The Last Knight's first couple of trailers sold the "Dark Awakening" and Prime in space stuff, but the next trailer was big on Izzy, and the main trailer had a bunch of stuff in it. Not to mention interviews and panels contained plenty of things that weren't present in the final film.

With that out of the way, it's easy to latch onto advertising slogans and mottoes, or to something in a single trailer or television spot, and then get mad when the movie doesn't turn out to be focused on that...but the earlier movies ALL heavily featured things in trailers and television spots that weren't as prominent in the finished films. As do most all other big budget franchise flicks.

THIS! It's perfectly okay to prefer some of the Transformers movies to some of the others for reasons. It's completely silly when fans act as if the non-realistic and over-the-top things in their preferred movies are these perfectly kosher parts of the franchise, while equivalent things in another, less liked movie are these crimes against the Transformers brand and humanity.

Apparently you failed your writing/English courses because Creators has an "s" at the end - it's a plural. Quintessa is a singular entity. Period.

Plus, you can't just pull 'oh because that' how it could be interpreted as that' and say you can actually disprove what I'm saying in that the Creators are a bunch of snot eaters. It's unlikely, yes, but it's just as valid a course of action for the plot as is any of yours because there is nothing to support any of whatever anybody says would be coming next.

Point is, no matter what you say, you can not 100% prove me false with my claims the Creators are morons who eat their own boogers. Because you can not decisively prove me false in a way such as how 'the sky is green' is a false statement.

It needs a redo more than it needs a sequel.

Well yeah, that's why I edited my post to acknowledge it was a poor comparison.

I did make that as the case :)

Right, but I'm not really talking about those other movies. I'm only focusing on TLK and the proposed storyline. Nothing more. I have my own criticisms of other movies showing disasters like Armageddon and Deep Impact and all that jazz. But I felt that not worth bringing up because that would just make my post into an even longer TL;DR if you know what I mean :)

That I agree with. The "all over the place" point...is rather on point.

:lol  I can't recall that I personally got mad. Disappointed? Sure. But definitely not mad. I may have ranted on my take of the movie, but I assure you "mad" was nowhere in the range of emotions I felt after watching TLK. But I understand what you're saying. I agree with some of it...and not so much on the others. But that's ok :)  This is what having a discussion/conversation is about isn't it?

A TLK sequel is (IMO) honestly hindered by its cliffhanger. It would force the writers to put a lot of focus on unicron and the weird quintessa thing for it to make sense.

That's basically calling the man a liar. I get that with Bay and Lorenzo, but Knight has been forthcoming and honest (within the confines of his job) and hasn't lied or walked back anything he's said thus far. I'll need proof before I can call him a liar like others are quintessentially doing.

He also deserves better treatment than that. It takes BIG balls to make a 6th film in a franchise such as this one with the amount of disdain it has.

If nothing else, the people should at least have respect for Knight on that aspect.

That interview has Knight explaining that he had to retcon certain elements of the existing continuity to craft a good story, but every movie connected to a series has to deal with these problems. He doesn't outright say it's a reboot, which is strange if it's so obvious. He even says that it was important to keep consistency with the other stories in the series's mythos and universe.

It's not weird. Travis Knight doesn't make the big decisions. If it was up to Knight, fans would have seen Megatron.

No, he doesn't. You didn't read it correctly, or you chose to see it your way. He says the exact opposite. They TRIED to go your way, but ultimately decided against it.
