GX-34 arrived damn fast from Mandarake via EMS. Hopefully I can get a chance to open and play with it later today.

Nope. With companies like Pose+ coming out if the woodwork I feel like this will eventually be done much better and larger.

I have high hopes for GoShogun (one of my favorites) and Baxinger.

Finally got my hands on GX-34. Overall it's a pretty cool figure. I'm lucky to have found it on Mandarake for under $200 with EMS shipping. As far as I can tell, the box is dinged up but still in decent shape, and as mentioned before, a couple of the soft rubber parts are slightly bent out of shape. Otherwise the figure is in very good condition.

I was initially surprised by how many pieces there were. I appreciate the extra hands but I don't really plan on swapping out much. Thank goodness everything stores neatly away. I'm not a fan of parts-forming, but I can live with it on this figure. Very impressed with the weight as it's surprisingly dense.

My only complaint is that overall it's a bit floppy. That goes for both vehicle modes as well as the combined robot form. For instance, some of the panels don't always stay tight in vehicle mode, and the arms/legs of the robot always wants to pop out. Not sure if it's cuz of the design of the figure or because mine is used. Definitely not deal breakers.

To anyone who has it but is an original GX-23 worth getting or should I wait for a possible renewal version?

Oh man it’s a great release BUT it’s not going to wow you like a newer SOC. It’s 15 years? old and a dated design of limited articulation (except for ‘lil ZamboAce). If you like older diecast toys with size and a ton of retro feel you’ll love it. It you want something new with clever articulation it’s not the droid you’re looking for.

    For your consideration

It’s more the older and extremely complex design is a bit wobbly in places. It’s the same on the GX-34r that they released a few years back. I love it for it’s look and the amazing transformation. But it’s one that I rig to a stand to prevent shelf diving. It always makes me nervous. Ideon is a little like that too. The legs have a tendency to compress.

Random but is there a way to look up individual designers for Soul of Chogokin releases? I honestly think GX-34 is a highlight of the line in terms of engineering and quality and it would be cool when hunting for other older SoC releases to use said designer as a resource. Same with stuff like the GX-54-56 Tobikashi stuff; would love to know who did it and what else the person mase.
